A petite Southern woman with grace and quiet strength, Betty lived a life centered on love, family, and home. She was married to her beloved husband for 61 years - a partnership that began in a charmingly simple way. When his family moved next door to hers in Columbia, South Carolina, their mothers introduced them, beginning a lifelong love story.
Betty devoted herself wholeheartedly to her husband and their two children, creating a home filled with warmth, beauty, and care. She was an exceptional homemaker, known for her talents as both a seamstress and a hostess. She lovingly made her daughter's clothes from first grade through college, a reflection of both her skill and her devotion.
Growing up during the Great Depression, Betty developed a resilience that defined her entire life. She learned the value of frugality, yet her sense of style and eye for decorating made everything around her feel elegant and inviting. She had a special gift for bringing new life to old items, transforming the ordinary into something beautiful.
Betty had a special love for children, which she expressed through her volunteer work. While living in Lancaster, South Carolina, she served faithfully in her church nursery, was a devoted Girl Scout leader in her daughter's troop, and was a Red Cross volunteer at the local hospital, always offering kindness and care to those around her.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Beth Moore Hylton; son, William Andrew Moore, Jr.; brother, William C. Madden; two grandchildren, Jordan Allen Hylton and Ashley Hylton Pierce; and four great-grandchildren, Crawford Pierce, Henry Hylton, Reid Hylton and Tripp Pierce.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vivian and Bright Madden; husband, William Andrew Moore; and sister, Marian Evans.
The family would like to thank the staff of Capstone Hospice for their extraordinary care of Betty and family the last 18 months. You were incredible.
A private interment will be held at Bethel United Methodist Memorial Garden in Columbia, South Carolina at a later date.
