Charles Richard (Rick) Hoskinson was born in Columbus, Ohio, on August 6th, 1946, to Margaret and Charles Hoskinson. Growing up, Rick joined the Boy Scouts of America and proudly earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He loved traveling and while in high school made several epic trips with his best childhood friend, Ron Haas.
Rick attended The Ohio State University where he joined the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He sang in the University Chorus, and there he met his “lovely bride,” Carol. They married in Archbold, Ohio, in 1969. After earning his MBA from Ohio State, he and Carol moved to Atlanta, Georgia. They immediately met their lifelong friends, the Garners, and fell in love with the South.
After a short stint in New Jersey, Carol and Rick made it back to Atlanta and settled into life in Roswell. They became members of the River Club where Rick played tennis every chance he had. He served as president of the club more than once and truly loved all of his friends and tennis brothers. ‘Til the very end, tennis was one of his greatest joys, in large part because of the friendships he made through the sport.
Carol and Rick had one daughter, Leah, who was Rick's pride and joy. The three of them were as close a family as any could be. Rick loved watching Leah dance, cheer and perform. He was most proud that he never missed a single event of which she was a part. He always showed up, whenever and wherever she needed him.
Rick loved his son-in-law Nick Humphries as much as he loved Leah. He was incredibly proud of their friendship. One of his favorite moments was pinning Nick at his induction into the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Rick and Carol loved attending Alabama football games while Leah and Nick were in college. They always made it to the band party for a least a dance or two.
At the birth of his granddaughter Keeton Rick fell in love all over again. They had a special relationship. He was her Person, and she his. “Baba” loved building castles with Keeton in the basement, complete with working drawbridges, and looked forward to seeing her dance in her first “big girl” dance recital in May.
A long-time member of the Roswell Presbyterian Church and Roswell Rotary Club, Rick served as the golf tournament sign czar for Rotary and cherished the friendships he made through his years in the club. As Carol began her long-term battle with Alzheimer’s disease and her condition rapidly declined, Rick looked forward the community of Thursday meetings even more.
This past year was incredibly difficult for Rick. He watched his best friend and partner in crime lose her battle against Alzheimer's. In the end his broken heart just could not keep him going, and he passed away suddenly on April 16th, 2016.
Rick is survived by his wife of 46 years, Carol Hoskinson; his beloved daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter, Leah, Nick and Keeton Humphries; his sisters, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, their spouses and children; and hundreds of amazing friends. Rick was a true original. He will be missed.
