
Charles "Jerry" Tedford, 80, of Roswell died at home October 25. Born October 1, 1932 he was the son of Henry and Mayzelle Tedford of Maryville, Tennessee and was a descendant of Capt. John Tedford of the Revolutionary War. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janice Hart Tedford and daughters, Susan Cutcliff (David) of Montclair, VA, Alison Songer (Mark) of Chattanooga, TN and Carol Paxton Tedford of Atlanta. Grandchildren include Emily, Luke and Ashly Cutcliff, Nathan Songer, Paxton Alexander, and by his brother William Tedford of Maryville, TN and several nieces and nephews. He graduated from East Tennessee State College and held graduate degrees from George Peabody College for Teachers. He served in the United States Army Band in Germany and Austria. He taught public school music in Sulivan, Mo and Huntsville Al. He was the head of the fine arts dept. of Virginia Intermont College and taught for International School Services in Pakistan, Iran, and Scotland. Tedford came to Atlanta in 1980 and taught chorus at Crestwood High School in Fulton County and worked for Hartman Associates in Grant Park. He sang for 17 years with Robert Shaw in the Atlanta Symphony Chorus, the Symphony Chamber Chorus, and the Robert Shaw Chamber Singers. He directed church and community choirs everywhere he lived. He was a soloist at Roswell United Methodist Church and minister of music at the Lutheran Church of the Incarnation in Marietta. A Memorial Service will be held at the Roswell United Methodist Church, 814 Mimosa Blvd. on Monday, Oct. 29 at 10:00 a.m. followed by visitation with the family in the Parlor. His ashes will be interred later at the Holston Conference Cemetery at Emory and Henry College, Emory, VA. In lieu of flowers the family request contributions to The Friends of the Roswell Library, 115 Norcross St. Roswell, GA 30075.
