Steele, David James, age 91 passed away January 10th, 2025 in Roswell, Georgia. David was born in Portland, Oregon to David M and Margaret Doig Steele on March 28th, 1933. He was predeceased by his wife Patricia Joyce Steele in 2020 and is survived by his children David Steele, Bruce Steele and Chris Steele (Julie) grandchildren Emily Steele and Jack Steele, along with his stepdaughters Jennifer Kumnick (Chris) and Susan Fettig and grandchildren Nora Hanley Fettig and Connor Fettig.
David grew up and raised his family in Oregon with Mary Steele. He spent countless summers at his family’s beach home in Seaside and skiing Mt Hood in the winter. He attended the University of Oregon and Portland State and served in the US Army, manning a tank in the Korean War. David devoted 59 years to working at RM Wade in irrigation with roles of increasing responsibility and retired as the Vice President of Sales in 2016. David treasured his time at Wade and considered his co-workers family. Once retiring, he continued to work for them consulting and was spearheading a project he was very excited about at the time of his death.
David’s work assignment took him to over 50 countries in Eastern and Western Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Australia, and South America. He was always eager to try new cuisine and immerse himself in the local culture. He had business associates around the world who became dear friends to him over the course of his career.
David was an Oregonian at heart but he also spent several years working in California and ultimately moved to Roswell, GA in 2016 to be close to Patricia’s daughters and grandchildren. David held his time with Patricia dear and introduced her to his love of travel. Their adventures took them to Hawaii several times, on a river barge cruise in the South of France, traversing Australia, Greece and Italy and exploring the many parks and wonders of the Western US. David loved trying new restaurants and fine dining but he was most happy at his local Irish pub enjoying a burger and a beer watching his Oregon Duck football team win. In his spare time, David enjoyed playing board games, dice and putting together puzzles.
The funeral service will be 10AM Saturday, January 25th at St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 535 Rucker Road, Alpharetta GA with a reception immediately following. Arrangements by Roswell Funeral Home & Greenlawn Cemetery & Mausoleum.
