David was born on October 28, 1952, in New York City, New York to Marion and Elaine Waters. He was the eldest of five children, his siblings are Michael, Paul, Timothy and Jonathan and he grew up in the town of Hempstead, NY where his father purchased a home in 1957.
David graduated from Hempstead High School in 1970 and went on to attend the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA where he earned degrees in Sociology and Political Science when he graduated in 1974. Later, he continued his education at St. John’s University in Queens, NY where he received his Master of Business Administration degree in 1987. He went on to have an outstanding business career in the marketing management field where he held executive positions with Abbott Laboratories, Invacare Corporation, and Wilson Greatbatch Ltd. among others.
David met his future wife, Mary Burgess, while they were students at Hempstead High School, and he married his high school sweetheart on June 15, 1974. Mary was the love of his life and of this union they had two sons, David, and Eric. They celebrated their 49th year of marriage in June and had a wonderful life together. Faith in God was a centerpiece of their lives and they set a superb Christian example as they always adhered to the two greatest commandments: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength,” and “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
For many years while attending Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Atlanta, David served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector in addition to serving on church finance committees to assist in fundraising. He also gave of his time and energy to local community agencies such as the Child Development Center in Atlanta raising funds to provide resources for underserved communities. Even as his health declined, he regularly attended St. Peter Chanel Catholic Church.
In addition to his wife and sons, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, fond and loving memories of David are cherished by his brothers, sisters-in-law, aunts and numerous loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
