Delores Mitchell was born on May 15, 1951 to James Mitchell and Almedia Harvey Mitchell in Enfield, North Carolina. She was raised by her loving grandfather Winfield Mitchell and grandmother Elnora Mitchell on a small farm. She attended Enfield Elementary School, likely where her love of education began. She graduated with honors from high school and college, receiving a B.S. degree in English Education from N.C. A&T State University in 1974. In her senior year, she reigned as Miss N.C. A&T and was a member of the famed gospel choir. Delores went on to receive a Masters Degree from The Ohio State University in 1975, where she met and married Charles Tulloss.
Delores and Charles moved to Illinois and began a family with the birth of their son Joseph and first daughter Almeta. Not long after, they moved to Alpharetta, Georgia and expanded their family with the birth of their daughter Tiffany. Delores loved God and loved being a mother. They joined the St. James United Methodist Church where Delores was an active and devoted member. She would come to find a true place in the community with many friendships and the love of God through the church. She absolutely loved to spread God’s light through singing in the senior choir and welcoming others into the church as a greeter with the friendliest smile or a kind hug. Delores was a part of many ministries in the church and lived a life devoted to service, especially to the elderly who she loved to sing to at local nursing homes. Wherever she went, she spread joy and brought love along with her.
Delores had the kindest heart and sweetest soul, and was beloved by so many friends and her family. In her life, she was a teacher, authored a children’s book, real estate agent, loved to walk and be active, organized outings, laughed endlessly, and enjoyed the theater from going to plays to being an extra in movies. She was preceded in death by her parents as well as a brother and sister-in-law, James and Dora Mitchell.
She is survived by a number of family members including her husband, Charles Tulloss; son, Joseph Tulloss and his wife Jessica Tulloss with their son and Delores’ grandson Gabriel Tulloss; daughter, Almeta Tulloss and her husband Jesse Evans and their son and Delores’ grandson, Ellis Evans, and her daughter, Tiffany Tulloss. She is also survived by her Aunt, Mattie Hewlin and sisters: Barbara Hughes, Ernestine Mitchell, Mary Rook, and Laura Walker, and their respective children including several nieces and nephews along with a number of other friends and family. She was deeply loved and will be forever missed.
