My sincere condolences on Derek's passing.  I hired Derek as a Controller for LSG Sky Chefs in Los Angeles.  It was also there where he met his future wife Michelle. We remained in contact throughout the years to talk Baseball, Boxing, Football and Life. So sad to hear this news. Wayne Luggery

I was on vacation and just found out about this when I got home.  Worked with Derek at Skychefs and we founded our fantasy football league.  I always considered him a good friend.  He was a good hearted person and a great father. My sincere condolences to his family.

Derrick was a genuine friend who was kind to everyone and very thoughtful. He was one of the first to reach out and congratulate me for being a dad when my son was born. The best advice he ever gave me was to saver every moment of being a dad because it goes by fast. I’m glad he told me that because I think about that and his message regularly.  Love, hugs, prayers, and blessings from my family to yours. This loss is heartbreaking.

My cousin Derek, we spent many years together growing up and I have great memories of us hanging out in TX, I know the love you had for life and family. Your legacy will live on through the boys and they will grow and flourish from your seeds of wisdom over the years. Yes, you are gone too soon and will be missed immensely by so many. Penny & I are so sorry to hear about Derek.  We send our condolences and love to the entire family.  I am at a loss and will deeply miss my lifelong friend, but I feel so fortunate to have had him as my friend, teammate, freshman year roommate, concert buddy, and occasional partner in crime...nothing too serious.  I have such great memories of our younger days, and I loved hearing about all the big and small moments he shared about your family over the past several years.  I hope all of those memories, adventures, laughter and stories will bring some comfort to each of you. Miss you, man.

Very few people are fortunate enough to have a lifelong friendship like I had with Derek.  43 years of friendship, that I will forever hold onto .  In recent years, we both realized how lucky we were to have the type of brotherhood we shared, and we wore it with an immense amount of pride.  A friendship like this is rare and I only hope that my children can have what I shared with Derek.  

Derek, you had a huge impact on my life. Unlike no other…outside of my family, almost every major highlight or adventure in my life involved you.  I am so fortunate to hold onto those memories that we would frequently talk about together, “remembering when.”  Thousands of times laughing so hard that we could not breath, tears running down our faces, I will miss that but never forget.  So many great childhood adventures (some mischievous), hundreds of inside jokes, trash talk, movie quotes, concerts, and so much more.  You influenced me to love classic rock, 80’s hair bands, and our favorite band KISS.  Roommates, workout partners, thousands of hours playing basketball, flag football and really any sport. So much fun just hanging out and being friends. 

You were always a loyal friend to me and those close to you.  Always had my back and always available to give advice and not afraid to ask when needed.  When I needed something, you were there and our weekly phone calls and visits throughout the years meant the world to me.  I am proud to be your friend and proud of the impact you made to so many lives.  

Man…this is tough…I am going to miss you Derek…this is such a gut punch, but I will hang on and cherish the memories forever!  Rest in peace Derek.  You were not just a friend; you were family, and your memory will live on forever. I Love Ya Brother...

One of a kind friends/brothers like you don't come along in life very often. You made having a roommate when we lived together in the apartment in Plano, the best experience anyone could want in a roommate.
