It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Esther Halmi Dora, aged 73, on October 16, 2024. Born in Cegléd, Hungary on June 23, 1951, to Mihaly and Eszter Torok Halmi, and raised in the charming town of Tápiószőlős, Hungary, Esther’s life was a testament to love and resilience.
At the age of 19, Esther embarked on a brave journey to the United States, settling in New York City. In 1970, she married Charles Boldizsar Dora, and together they built a beautiful family, raising their two sons, Charles and Michael, with love and dedication.
Esther was cherished for her quick wit, humor, and unwavering love for her family. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother whose warmth touched the lives of everyone around her. Esther found immense joy in her role as a grandmother to Izabel and Madelaine. Her pride in their accomplishments and her boundless love for them will remain a lasting part of her legacy.
Esther dedicated much of her career to working at a non-profit social services organization, helping others until she relocated to Alpharetta, Georgia nearly ten years ago.
Esther’s strength was tested when her beloved younger son, Michael, passed away in 2015, a loss she carried with grace and courage. Despite the sorrow, her spirit remained strong, and her memory will live on in her son Charles, her daughter-in-law Susan, and her precious granddaughters. She will also be deeply missed by the many dear friends and community members whose lives she touched with her generosity, laughter, and love.
Her passing leaves an unfillable void, but her legacy endures in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. Esther's love for family, and her passion for helping others will be remembered for years to come.
