Imogene (Jean) Cannon Jordan, resident of Sandy Springs Place, Sandy Springs, GA, and formerly of Dunwoody, GA, passed away on May 12, 2021, after a brief illness in Northside Hospital, at the age of 90 years old.
Jean was born on March 21, 1931, in Atlanta, GA to Ross and Jesse Cannon (both deceased) and had four siblings, one sister, Doris, and three brothers, Lloyd, Hoyle, and C.B. (all deceased). She was proud to be called the “baby” of the family. Jean was raised and chose to reside in the Atlanta Metropolitan area her entire life. She was proud of Atlanta heritage and called herself a “city girl”. She loved recounting her experience as a youngster in a Model A tootling around Atlanta. Jean graduated from the West Fulton High School in Atlanta, GA, in 1948. She initially worked in the banking industry and later found her niche serving in a variety of positions, mostly in accounting and administration, with the State of Georgia Government, Department of Human Services, where she subsequently retired.
First and foremost, Jean was a believer and follower of Jesus Christ. Her interests included singing in her beloved home church choir at Glen Haven Baptist; attending services and Sunday School at Glen Haven and First Baptist Roswell churches; joining in on the fun of the West Fulton Owl’s Club, After Hours Social Club, Solos After Hours Social Club, and Roswell Senior Center; traveling locally (particularly to Treasure Island, FL, and Hiawassee and Helen, GA) and internationally (twice to the Holy Land); dancing; bingo (multiple cards); camping; fishing; ceramics; gardening; music of all types (especially the Junction Band and Laigh Langley); craft shows; cooking for a crowd; telling crazy jokes; talking on the telephone with family and friends; and attending gatherings. She financially supported various organizations, primarily Veteran, political, and humanitarian.
Jean is probably best known among her family for her heart felt generosity and genuine desire to keep her family together. Her home was open to all. And, without a doubt, she was well known as a lover of all things chocolate, particularly, bite-sized Hershey's.
Jean was predeceased by her husband, John David Jordan (J.D).
Jean is survived by her four children and their spouses, Walter Humphreys (Judy); Ronald Humphreys (Deborah); Victor Humphreys (Sharon); and Darlene Smith (Michael deceased).
In addition, she has 10 surviving grandchildren and their spouses, Stacey Humphreys; Dayna Lee (Jason); Julia Furgiuele (Nicholas); Kristen Parsons (Chris); Alisha Whitt; Rhonda Cassidy (Christopher); Kerri Schoning (Lanny); Mindy Humphreys; Michael Smith; and Amanda Spann (Nic).
And, she was blessed with 9 surviving great grandchildren, Alex and Isla Lee; Francis Furgiuele; Dean Parsons; Madison, Preston, and Liam Cassidy; and Brody and Kennady Spann.
