James Richard McCrary, aged 70, passed from this world filled with God’s Grace and enveloped by his loving family on July 12, 2023.Born in Mobile, Alabama on November 10, 1952, ‘Brother’ Jim spent his formative years in Sandy Springs. From Sandy Springs Little League to Sandy Springs High School to a first manager of TGIF Friday’s in Sandy Springs to his last residence at Sandy Springs’ Mt. Vernon Towers, Jim was the quintessential ‘man about town’ in his beloved Sandy Springs.
After long careers in the restaurant business, and later the long haul trucking trade, Jim found a true calling in charitable service volunteering with The Salvation Army and serving at Mt. Vernon Towers as driver and guide for fellow residents on tours, outings and errands. Much beloved at ‘The Towers’, he was recently voted by residents ‘King’ of the Towers as a ceremonial gesture of affection and appreciation for his contributions there.
Jim is Predeceased by his loving parents Marion ‘Buddy’ McCrary and Ellen McCrary and survived by Son James Jr., Daughter Jennifer Brown and husband Alan and their children, Olivia, Harper, James, and Daniel. Sister Pennie LaFon and husband G. Thomas, brother Charles and wife Anne, Sister Julia Franzman and husband Richard, and sister Mildred Savory and husband Brian.
Also, his best Bud and cousin Larry McCrary and wife Suzun. There are numerous nieces and nephews who loved being with ‘Uncle Jim’ at the family vacation at Crescent Beach, Fl. every year for the last three decades. An avid golfer who loved traversing green fairways, Jim is appropriately now lying down down in ‘green pastures’ with his Lord.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army.
