Joe Terrell was born on September 10, 1928 in “Terrell-town”, a suburb of Prentiss, Mississippi. Mr. Terrell passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 18th. He was one of 5 children, 3 of which lived until adulthood. His two surviving brothers, Tom & Roy Terrell currently reside in Mobile, Al and McGee, MS respectively. Joe went to the University of Southern Mississippi on a football scholarship and while in college worked part-time for the local Sears store in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He met his wife of 61 years, Catherine in Mobile. Joe & Catherine have 2 adult children Joe, Jr. (Jody) of Atlanta and Deborah of Pittsfield, Mass. In addition, Joe & Catherine have a beautiful daughter-in-law Irene and 2 wonderful grandsons, Beau & Adam all of Atlanta. After college Joe spent 30 plus years working his way up the corporate ladder with Sears, all the way to the Sears Tower in Chicago. After leaving Sears, and a “brief” retirement, Joe’s zeal for work led him to continue his retail career with Eckerd Drugs, Farmer’s Furniture and lastly as a consultant to Aaron Rents. He worked actively well into his 70’s. Joe never met a stranger. He could light up a room with his wit and humor. A great story-teller and an avid writer. He loved his neighbors and they loved him. He was known as the neighborhood “handy-man”. Most importantly, Joe loved the Lord, his family and life in general. Joe Terrell was a member of the Roswell United Methodist Church. He will be missed by all. Funeral services are scheduled for October 22, at 11:00AM, at the Roswell United Methodist Church. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joe's honor to the Atlanta Union Mission, 2353 Bolton Rd., Atlanta, GA, 30318 or www.atlantamission.org. Roswell Funeral Home has been entrusted with the family's arrangements.
