On October 3, 1961, John Thomas Robinson was born in Jacksonville, Florida to Ronald and Virginia Robinson. He attended Southside Junior High School where he played the drums in the band then went on to attend and graduate from Mosley High School in Panama City after his family moved to Lynn Haven, Florida when his dad was transferred with Bell South. Growing up in Jacksonville, he and his brother, Jimmy, shared many escapades and adventures together, occasionally getting into trouble like boys will do. He and his brother dug a four-foot hole in the back yard in an attempt to dig to China, disappeared for hours once when they went hiking and exploring for several miles, and also tested security measures at a large expanse of a dried swamp and abandoned strip mining land. They also took it to themselves to cover the back roof of the house with various items they found. John also went on an adventure himself when he and some friends left Lynn Haven and drove to California by way of Ohio. His mother and father did much traveling in Florida, going to places like Silver Springs, Busch Gardens, Disney World, Kennedy Space Center, and Six-Gun Territory, where John and brother met two stars of the TV series, Flipper, Luke Halpin and Tommy Norden. They also fed deer at the Florida Deer Ranch, had fun at Santa Claus Land, and made many trips to Treasure Island, Florida, where he and brother loved going back and forth to the Gulf of Mexico and the swimming pool.
In Jacksonville, John played little league baseball, football, and learned to scuba dive. He and his brother spent much time at the beach. After graduating from high school, he attended Gulf Coast Community College in Panama City, and eventually was hired by a major printing company and moved to Miami. While in Miami, he attended the University of Miami. The company for which he worked was bought out by another company which in turn was bought by NCR. After a big layoff, he moved to Roswell, Georgia, where his parents were now living after his dad had been transferred again with Bell South. He went to work for a UPS store where he eventually rose to manage the store, and worked there for many years until the franchise was bought out by another company.
John was a big Miami Hurricanes and Miami Dolphins fan and also followed the Atlanta Falcons. He was a NASCAR fan, attending races with friends. He drove a race car as part of the Richard Petty Experience, along with his mom and best friend, Tom Kohl. He enjoyed life in Roswell and had many friends that he spent time with at pool parties and local establishments. He had a dog named Buster that was family to him. He loved his dog and Buster became synonymous with being a part of John, with John taking many photos and videos of him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald Robinson, and is survived by his mother, Virginia Robinson; brother, Jimmy Robinson; aunt, Sue Sullivan; cousins: Gib and Stuart Sims and Sandy White and close family friend, Don Neuberg.
John was a very friendly and fun person to be around, and he will be missed very much by his family and all those that knew him.
A visitation for John will be held Saturday, February 15, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Roswell Funeral Home, 950 Mansell Road, Roswell, Georgia 30076, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM.
John will be laid to rest in Green Lawn Cemetery & Mausoleum, 950 Mansell Road, Roswell , Georgia 30076.
