Keith Van Cummings, 59, of Woodstock was a CPA who knew the most valuable currency is time. He always preached the gratitude and respect you must show someone who has given you theirs, and in turn, to make sure you spend your most precious asset with the people you love. But, since they do charge per word in obituaries, he might’ve also told us to wrap this up quickly.
An avid runner who earned the privilege of running in the Chicago, Philadelphia, New York, and Boston Marathons, Keith was a man of God who finished his final race and joined his Maker in Heaven on Wednesday, July 19th, 2023.
Keith joins in Heaven his father, Hubert Cummings, his stepfather, Jim Cohen, and his two favorite in-laws, Buck and Johnnie Merrell.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 30 incredible years, Duna, son Chris, mother Glenda Cohen, brother Darin Cummings (Cherry), uncle Richard Cummings (Sandra), as well as stepdaughter Sandy Bozeman (Ted) and their children Reece Bozeman (Beylee), Ragen Bozeman (Jacob Singleton), and Rylan Bozeman, and many more cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Keith was born on December 5th, 1963. He was a lifelong Georgia fan and later graduated from the University of Georgia—an alma mater he rooted for all his life.
He loved his family. He loved live music. He loved the Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldogs. It’s not lost on us that he lived long enough to see both win long-awaited championships.
A true “guys guy,” but loved by all—Keith was equally at home bowling with his buddies over pitchers of beer as he was being “one of the girls” hanging out with Duna and her friends. From passing Fireball to everyone around him at concerts, to laughing so hard with Chris in drive-thru windows that they’d have to leave without ever ordering, he was the most loving and fun man.
Chances are, Keith’s up in Heaven right now recognizing every celebrity who ever lived and convincing other people to go grab him an autograph. And, it sure will be louder up there when the Braves and Dawgs are playing.
Keith carried with him a one-of-a-kind zest for life. His positivity was contagious. In his final days, his family was deeply touched by the number of visitors who thanked Keith for the person he was, rather than saying goodbye. He always found a way to lift others up—and a way to get his 10,000 steps in, regardless of the realities of what he was going through—so we want to end this with a reminder that you can honor Keith’s life by living yours to the FULLEST!!! That’s what he would do. With three exclamation marks.
A celebration of Keith’s life will be held Saturday, July 29, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Roswell Funeral Home, 950 Mansell Road, Roswell, GA 30076. Reception following at the family home, 245 Dawson Dr, Woodstock, GA 30188.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Keith can send donations to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta to fund research to fight childhood cancer. He always said, “It doesn’t matter what I ever have to go through, childhood cancer is worse.”
