In loving memory of Lawrence Douglas Scoggins (Larry), aged 81 years, who sadly passed away March 1, 2013. Larry is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Dorothy Newton; his children and their spouses, Tracy and Vincent Johnson of San Jose, California; Brian and Tammy Scoggins of Monroe, North Carolina; Cathy Scoggins of Alpharetta, Georgia; and Scott and Suzanne Scoggins of Alpharetta, Georgia. He was the proud grandfather of Melissa, Joseph, Christina, Adrienne, Ryan, Krystal, Hunter and Tyler, and the proud great-grandfather of Mario-Anthony, Ethan, Jacob, Noah and Joshua.
Larry was born and raised in the Atlanta, Georgia area, graduated from Russell High School, and then served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. Following his service, he earned a BS in civil engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology while working full-time and raising his family. He enjoyed a long career with Law Engineering and Testing Company, where he held a variety of positions over the years, culminating in the presidency of Law Associates, Inc. After more than 40 years with the firm, Larry began and enjoyed his well-deserved retirement.
Larry, loving husband, father and dear grandfather Dan-Dan, was the stalwart, the rock, the cornerstone and foundation of the family. He has passed on his timeless traits of humility, humor, dry wit, and an endless desire for the pursuit of knowledge. We will all dearly miss you, but you live on in our memories forever.
Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at Roswell Funeral Home, 950 Mansell Rd, Roswell, GA. From 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. There will be a graveside service on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at the City Cemetery of Lafayette, GA at 1:00 PM, with military honors. Rev. Jason Barber will officiate.
