Lloyd was born into a God-fearing family, and he continued to serve the Lord until the time of his death. He also wanted others to know the joy of church membership and service to God, and he delighted in bringing others to his place of worship.
Lloyd participated in many ministries throughout the years, including being a deacon, an usher, an SPRC member, a youth counselor, chairperson of the senior's ministry, Bible study participant, and a member of the choir. He carried out his responsibility eagerly, seriously and diligently.
He graduated from Merry High School in Jackson Tennessee and attended Tennessee State University in Nashville Tennessee, where he earned degrees in English and Speech and Drama. While a student there, he became a member of Omega Psi Phi fraternity and formed lifelong bonds. He was united in Holy matrimony to Vahness H. Moore. To this union, two children were born, and it was important to him that his family reverenced, obeyed and loved the Lord. Upon graduating from college he became an English teacher and Speech and Drama coach in the St. Louis Public School System. He was later employed at Washington University. Lloyd eventually moved his family to Rochester New York, to accept a position at the Burroughs Corporation. He left Burroughs to accept a position at the Xerox Corporation. After some years, he and his family relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, where he retired from Xerox in 2009.
Even though he left the teaching profession, he loved to teach, and he continued to mentor many many individuals throughout his life. He had numerous hobbies including gardening, fishing, racquetball, bowling and attending sporting events. He took great pleasure in attending his grandchildren’s events and activities.
The relationships with his Lord, his family, and his friends made his life rich and full. However, God called him away to an even fuller and richer life on May 31st, 2017.
His precious memory will be cherished by his wife, Vahness Moore Buchanan; his two children, Kevin Lloyd Buchanan of Douglas, Massachusetts and Curtis Hamilton Buchanan of Roswell Georgia; three Brothers, Harvey Buchanan (Sharon) of Jackson, Tennessee, Anthony Buchanan of Jackson, Tennessee, and Leon Buchanan (Jacqueline) of Puyallup, Washington; a sister, Sandra Fae Woods (James) of Jackson, Tennessee; two fraternal aunts, Ophelia Holliday of Aberdeen, Mississippi and Oberia Holliday of Prairie, Mississippi; three grandchildren, Eric Richard Lloyd Buchanan, Juliana Rae Buchanan and Justin Mekhi Buchanan; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
