Marilyn J Graber Dunphy, aged 92, passed away peacefully in Roswell, GA September 2024. She was born to Dr. Rex and Mrs. Lois Graber in Stanley, WI. She was truly a wonderful woman who loved her family and friends whole-heartedly.
She lived in Stanley through elementary school and later moved to Chippewa Falls, WI where she attended Chippewa Falls High School. During High School, she loved swimming and earned a spot on the Homecoming court. After High School, she attended Hamline University and was on the synchronized swim team, ‘The Aqua Follies’. Hamline is where she met her husband, Mike Dunphy. Marilyn traveled with the Hamlin basketball team, including during the State playoffs. There were many dances in that era, of which she did not miss one. She graduated with a PE degree.
Marilyn began teaching PE in elementary schools in MN before moving to AR, WI, Boston, MA and finally Roswell, GA. She and the family moved to Roswell, GA in 1965 where she raised 3 children, taught PE in Canton, GA, refinished furniture in the basement, taught swimming, and earned her Real Estate License. Throughout her 22 years with Northside Realty, Marilyn achieved many accomplishments, including the Million Dollar Club several times during her career. She loved helping numerous families find their perfect homes.
Beyond her career, Marilyn was an avid gardener. You could always find her mowing the lawn, weeding, tending to her numerous Roses, Hosta and Tomato plants. Another favorite pastime was shopping. She shopped garage sales, goodwill and North Fulton Charities. Jewelry was a favorite find and at the end of her life, she wore at least 5 rings and 2 necklaces 24/7. Although, she had dementia, she never forgot faces, family names or a piece of Jewelry. She still had a quick wit and that judgmental attitude! She enjoyed playing with and brushing her 2 dogs Jasper and Rocky. They were the joy of her life!
She purchased a mountain cabin in Bent Tree, Jasper, GA in her 50’s. When the Roswell house was not needing attention, she visited Bent Tree and worked on that house and yard. She would also swim at the lake while getting her tan and play bridge every chance she could.
Marilyn will be deeply missed by her devoted children Karrin (Alan) Landers, Roswell Ga, and Scott Dunphy, Frisco, TX, beloved Granddaughters, Shelby Childs, and Amy (Will) Hirsch and Great Granddaughter, Elsie Hirsch, Marietta, GA.
She was preceded in death by her parents Dr. Rex and Mrs. Lois Graber, her sister Susan Maitland, and her loving daughter Janie Dunphy.
Visitation will be at The Roswell Funeral Home Saturday, September 28th at 12:00 pm with a Celebration of Life for Marilyn beginning at 1:00 pm. Light refreshments will be served immediately following. Internment for immediate family will be held afterwards at Green Lawn Cemetery.
We would like to thank the wonderful care that mom received at Historic Roswell Place and Hospice Care. Every staff member played their part in caring for her. She was a handful at times, so please know how much we truly appreciate every one of your kind words, caring touches, support and hugs.
Marilyn's departure leaves a void in our hearts, but her legacy will forever be cherished.
