Marion Douglas Knight

Mike was born on August 4, 1943, in Pageland, South Carolina, to Wade and Mary Dell Knight. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Frances Laney Knight, with whom he shared a lifetime of love. His family finds comfort in knowing he is reunited with her in heaven, as his heart longed for her since her passing. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Chris Knight; his granddaughter, Alexis Bradley; his brother-in-law, Charles Laney; and his uncle, Cecil Clifton.

He is survived by his daughter, Becky Knight; his son, Doug Knight, and wife Mary; his sisters-in-law, Cathy Knight, Sheila Laney, and Brenda Laney; his aunt and uncle, Mary Ann and Bert Clifton; his aunt, Frances Clifton; and many beloved nieces and nephews. The family especially thanks Leo Miranda, who's loving care and companionship brought comfort and dignity to Mike and peace to those who loved him.

Mike worked for many years installing phone systems for telephone companies and often said it was one of the best decisions he ever made. His career was more than a job—it was an opportunity to serve others, something that defined his life. He dedicated himself to helping and loving people through both service and action.

He was an active volunteer at First Baptist Church of Monroe, the Greater Monroe Lions Club, the town of Indian Trail, his neighborhood of Brandon Oaks, and with the students of Rocky River Elementary. Perhaps his most joyful role of service was at Christmastime, when he brought delight to countless families as a jolly man with a white beard.

A service celebrating Mike’s life will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Monroe, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Monroe or to the Greater Monroe Lions Club.

Mike will be remembered for his unwavering love, his servant’s heart, and the joy he brought to everyone he met.
