

At the age of seven, Mary and her family fled China during the Chinese Communist Revolution in 1949 to Kowloon, Hong Kong, which is where she grew up. She married Chok Han Shu (aka William Shu) in 1964 and resided in HK with her three children until immigrating to Brooklyn, NY in January, 1977. The family moved to Savannah, GA in late 1978 and opened New China Restaurant near downtown Savannah, where, for the next 28 years, she and William cooked up delicious food for thousands of customers and friends. She and William moved to the Atlanta area in 2016 to be closer in proximity to their children and grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her spouse William, as well as her father, mother, an older brother and one of her two younger sisters.
She is survived by her children - Cecilia Shu Tracey (Bill), Joseph Shu (Trisha) and Ray Shu (Susan); her grandchildren - Alex Tracey (Cate), Jonathan Tracey, Reagan Shu and Catherine Shu; her step-grandchildren - Meghan Laszlo and Marshall Corry; and her step great-grandchildren - Rowan Golden, and Rio and Calliope Laszlo.
A funeral will be held at the chapel of Roswell Funeral Home on Monday, February 9, 2026 at 10AM. Following the service, the family will hold a private internment at Green Lawn Cemetery.
