Maxine was born in the small town of Linneus, MO., the second daughter of Lon and Lola Louthan. In the 7th grade they moved to Maryville, MO. where she met her high school sweetheart and future husband, Bud Millikan. Bud exclaimed to his mother, “There is a new girl in school who is really cute!” During WW2 Maxine worked as a switchboard operator for Bell Telephone and was the lead dancer for the famous Kansas City Dance Company. In 1944 she married 1st Lieutenant Bud Millikan, beginning their 66 years of marriage. Bud’s 17 year tenure as the head coach is recognized as the beginning of the Univ. of Maryland’s rise as a basketball power and he was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Maxine was loving and supportive of her husband and his career, and attended many of the basketball practices and knew all the plays. She was the perfect hostess with elegant presentations and food for the social events of the Terrapin Club, post-game parties in their home, and many events at the U. of Maryland. When the children were in school she was a stay-at-home mother. Later in life she worked for many years at Adair Realty in Atlanta. Her interests were gardening, an avid bridge player, and she had a flair for creativity with oil paintings and ceramic designs. She was very active in their church in both Maryland and Georgia serving on the Altar Guild, the church charities, and Meals-on-Wheels. In later years Maxine frequently hosted a gathering of friends on Friday afternoons with a glass of wine and hors d'oeuvres. On Friday evening please enjoy your beverage of choice with thoughts of "Bennie." In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. David’s Episcopal Church. Maxine is survived by her two children Marshal and Marla, six grandchildren; Nathan, Josh, Seth, Natalie, Zach, and Nick, and nine great-grandchildren; Sophia, Josh, Iban, Stella, Mills, Cameron, Joaquin, Marshall, and Romina. Funeral services will be held at St. David’s Episcopal Church in Roswell, GA on Feb.27 at 11AM with reception following.
