

Monroe F. “Buddy” Stamps, Jr., 89, longtime Roswell businessman and civic leader, died on January 29, 2015 at home in Alpharetta with his beloved wife Patricia and family by his side.Originally from Waco, Georgia, his family moved to Manchester where he spent his youth. Born on February 9, 1925, he was the son of Monroe F. Stamps, Sr.., and Dollie Noles Stamps. Buddy was an Eagle Scout, inducted in 1939. He would graduate high school from the Georgia Military College in 1942. After attending Oxford College of Emory University, he joined the Army Air Corps., became a navigator, and participated in numerous missions in the South Pacific during World War II. After the war, Buddy graduated from the University of Georgia, 1949, and settled in Atlanta. In 1952, he was recalled into the United States Air Force to serve in the Strategic Air Command during the Korean War. After 1952, Buddy served in the Air Force Reserves until retiring in 1985 as a Lieutenant Colonel of the United States Air Force. He then went on to graduate from Woodrow Wilson College of Law, 1959.Buddy then began his career with the Citizens and Southern National Bank, until his official retirement after thirty one years. Buddy was a very well known banker in the North Fulton area.He was a tireless community leader, taking leadership roles in many clubs in Roswell. Among others, he served as president of the North Fulton Chamber of Commerce, where he was instrumental in bringing the North Fulton Hospital to the area. He served on the Board of Directors and was Chairman of the Board at North Fulton Hospital. He also served as president of the Roswell Rotary Club, and was Chairman of the Roswell Development Authority for many years. Buddy was the North Fulton Citizen of the Year, 1979.He was a gifted writer, and known for his sense of humor. In later years, he would write a weekly column in the Manchester Mercury, titled “Manchester Memories”, depicting life growing up in Manchester, Georgia, and young adulthood in the service. He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Patricia Kennedy Stamps, his children, Mary Stamps (Richard) Bennett, Anna Stamps Kerndl, Thomas Sanders Stamps, Thomas Fisher, John (Carol Anne) Eubanks, Kimberly Eubanks (Lee) Echols, Jennifer Eubanks (Chad) Burke, and Heather Eubanks (Drew) Iturbe, eighteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.He was pre-deceased by his wife of forty four years, Ree Cunningham Stamps, and his son, Monroe F. Stamps, III. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 pm Monday, February 2, 2015 at Roswell United Methodist Church, 814 Mimosa Boulevard Roswell, Georgia 30075. Interment will follow in Green Lawn Cemetery, Roswell. The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon from 4:00 until 6:00 pm at Roswell Funeral Home.In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Roswell United Methodist Church Foundation or North Fulton Community Charities.
