Oswald “Oz” Jensen (aka “Popoz”), aged 83, passed away on September 11, 2025. Born in Brooklyn, NY in 1943 to Elisabeth and Oskar Jensen, Oz spent his childhood playing stickball, building radios, watching Flash Gordon on Saturdays, and spending lots of time outside.
After attending college at NJIT, Oz started work at Bell Labs and went on to a long career as an electrical and computer engineer. He was at the forefront of the era of microprocessors and signal processing and contributed to many of the technologies we use today.
Oz was known for his fun spirited nature, witty sense of humor, kindness, and his dedication to family and friends. An avid sailor turned golfer in retirement, Oz loved to learn and try new things, taking college classes, constantly reading, and travelling around the world seeking new adventures. He loved to play with his kids and grandkids, and was frequently found engaging in general shenanigans. A music lover, most days you would find WQXR or Jazz music playing in his house. He was quite active in the community and touched the lives of countless individuals by volunteering with multiple organizations.
In 1963, Oz married his wife, Anne, who after over 50 years of marriage preceded him in death. Oz will be greatly missed by his two daughters, Leslie Jensen-Link and Lauren Taliaferro; his grandchildren: Kat, Tayte, Simon, and Finley; his sister, Edith; his in-laws Bob and Wilma Nelsen; and his son-in-law Matthew.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Oz to The Parkinson’s Foundation.
