The beloved son of Lynn McCollum and Toni McCollum, Owen was born June 25, 2005, at Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, James and Faye McCollum, and by his maternal grandparents, Jim and Nancy Gordon.
A student at Accellus Academy, Owen had spent several years at Fellowship Christian School. While at Fellowship, Owen had made many friends, and enjoyed being on the wrestling team. He was also an avid soccer player, and a talented marksman, being known for clay traps.
Water in all forms was a delight to Owen, including fishing and swimming. Some of his favorite times were spent on vacations by the ocean, especially at Madeira Beach, Florida, and Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. The very best times involved a house or condo ringing with the joy of family and friends. Many cherished memories were made while they were all together.
Family was very important to Owen, and he will be greatly missed by those who survive him, including his parents, his sister, Jennifer Hunter (Randy), brothers, Daniel and Brandon (Stormey), aunts, Debbie McDonald (Carlos), and Jamie Phillips (Andrew), uncle, Jim McCollum (Jody), nephews, Mason Moore, Dylan Moore, and Bradley Moore, nieces, Molly Christian, Olivia Hunter, and Elaina Hunter, and cousin, Aidan Phillips.
Owen’s family and friends remember him as a caring and gentle soul. This was evidenced by the tender way he had with his many furry friends who adored him. He had a smile that could light up a room, and an infectious joy which was often reflected on the faces of those around him. Owen was also known by his family to be creative and artistic. He has left his family many of the works of his hands which will be much treasured.
The most lasting legacy Owen leaves is his love. Owen rested securely in the love of his parents, and more importantly in the love of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Owen demonstrated that love to both of his parents as he gave them the most precious final gift of his last words to each of them when he told them separately, “I love you, Mom,” and “I love you, Dad.”
Having left both of his parents secure in his love for them, on the night of November 13, 2023, Owen laid down in his childhood bed, in his childhood room, and went to sleep. He awoke to see the face of his Lord and Savior. Owen laid down only able to see “through a mirror dimly,” but he arose to see “face to face.” Owen is a blessed young man. He has been called by his Bridegroom, Jesus Christ, out of this world of imperfect pain, and into eternal communion with The One, who, having died for Owen, and redeemed him, has now raised him to life eternal in glory, where He has wiped every tear from Owen’s eyes. Blessed be the name of the LORD.
The Celebration of Owen’s Life will be held Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Restoration Church, 410 Rucker Rd., Alpharetta, GA 30004. The family will receive visitors prior to the service at 1:00 p.m.
