Dear Callahan Family, 
I am very sorry for your loss. I have many fond memories of Pete. He was one of the first to welcome me when I joined the Country Club of Roswell, and I’m so thankful to have met him. He welcomed me into the tennis group immediately and always had a smile on his face and a kind word. Thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. 

I was always happy to see Pete on the same court with me, knowing that the tennis would be good, the atmosphere pleasant, and the stories between games long and shaggy-haired.

I hope Pete's family takes solace knowing how well-liked he was at CCR.  I will miss him.

Pete Callahan was a friend and mentor to me when we worked together at Amchem nearly 40 years ago. It was my first job out of college, and traveling with Pete and our friend Bill Neill was both a learning experience and a lot of fun! I was the chemist with wastewater treatment expertise when Pete’s and Bill’s customers came under increased federal regulations in the coil coating industries, and I somehow earned the affectionate (?) nickname of “sludge rat” from Pete. Much better was the “Nickel George” nickname that persisted to this day.  We sparred over our Chicago versus Philly backgrounds when we first met, and giving each other grief was as comfortable in later years as it was back then.  He’s the one who alerted me to the Amchem Reunions when they first started up years ago (about 5 days before the event!), and when I asked why he hadn’t realized sooner that I was on the “lost list”, he said, “Well, better I tell you now, than call you the day after to ask why you weren’t there, huh?”  I’m really thankful that I got to visit with him before the 2015 Amchem Reunion. We had basically trespassed on the old plant site, and had gotten caught by a couple of the new owners/developers—but Pete’s Irish charm talked us out of any awkwardness. And at the luncheon afterwards, when another Amchem old-timer (even older than us!) had told a glowing story about how great Pete had treated him, Pete leaned over and whispered to me, “I have no idea who was so nice to him, but it wasn’t me!”  Pete just let the old guy feel good with his memories.

I’ll always remember him for his kindness and guidance to a green young woman in a male-dominated industry, helping me shine and grow—just because he could.  It’s a rare friendship that survives for all these years with such sporadic contact, but I’ll always be grateful for it.

My deepest sympathy to all his friends and family—he’ll be missed.  Maybe he and Bill Neill will watch the next Indy 500 from the premium seats in the sky!

Rob and I were lucky to share a wonderful cruise on the Danube with Pete and Mary. Getting to know him through his sheer enjoyment of the adventure, and his sense of humor added to the fun. Please accept our sincere prayers and condolences for your loss. He will be missed by many.
