Rebecca Brannon Schindler went to be with the Lord on September 12, 2021, following an acute illness and a period of declining health. A long-time resident of Alpharetta, she most recently lived at St. George Village in Roswell.
Born October 10, 1942 in Memphis, Tenn., Rebecca grew up in Atlanta and graduated from Sylvan Hills High School in 1960. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Shorter College, majoring in Music, and a master’s degree in Education from the University of West Georgia. She went on to receive advanced certifications in the field of choral music and music education, specializing in Orff-Schulwerk. Rebecca’s studies sent her to England, Germany, and Austria. She earned a certificate of Advanced Studies in Music and Dance Education from the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, Austria.
Rebecca’s career included teaching elementary music at Woodward Academy and in the Cobb County School System, as well as conducting children’s choirs and teaching piano. She received an Award of Excellence for Outstanding Professional Achievement from Cobb County Schools. After retirement, she was active in the Alpharetta Women's Club, the Alpharetta Historical Society, and the Chattahoochee Republican Women.
Rebecca was avidly interested in genealogy and was thrilled to be accepted into the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) after she retired from teaching. She also became active with the United States Daughters of 1812, Dames of the Court of Honor, and Colonial Dames of the 17th Century. Those activities and friends meant a great deal to her and were a huge source of pride.
Rebecca was preceded in death by her parents, Leon Rutland Brannon and Ruth Elizabeth Brannon, and by her husband, Richard Schindler. She is survived by daughter Beth Glavosek (Jack) of Alpharetta, son Brian Boak (Lynn) of Indianapolis, Ind., and grandchildren Henry Boak, Nate Boak, Libby Glavosek, and Owen Glavosek. Survivors also include brother Larry Brannon (Linda) and sister Carolyn Wilson (Don), nieces Lee Brannon and Paige Freeney (Chip), nephew Patrick Brannon (Karen), and numerous cousins.
Roswell Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements, which will include a private family service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Rebecca Schindler to:
