Bob was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts to Alice Helen Doherty and Robert J. O’Connor where he grew up with his brother David and sister Linda.
Bob’s work brought him to many places around the country but in 1978, he met the love of his life Venita in Winston Salem, North Carolina. There, the two married the same year and began proudly raising their newly blended family of Robert J. III, Catherine, Tony, Kevin, and Stephanie. Throughout their lifelong adventure together, the family traveled across the country in multiple moves for Bob’s career from California to Minnesota, New Jersey to Pennsylvania, Maryland, and then finally Georgia, which became their permanent and beloved home for the past 30 years.
Bob enjoyed a successful career in finance that spanned across multiple decades. He retired in 2005 as CEO of Retirement Plan Services of Invesco in Atlanta. Bob’s faith and church were very important to him. He was involved with and attended church at St. Brigid Catholic Church in Johns Creek until the pandemic and then they enjoyed mass online weekly from the Catholic Shrine, downtown Atlanta.
Bob is preceded in death by his mother Alice, father Robert, and daughter Cathy. He will be deeply missed by his wife Venita; brother David, sister Linda, his surviving children Bobby, Tony (Ashley), Kevin (Kim), Stephanie (Gary); son-in-law Alex, his 12 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, extended family and many friends throughout the Atlanta metro area and country.
Memorial service to be held at 12pm on Wednesday November 22, 2023 at St. Brigid Catholic Church in Johns Creek, GA.
