Ruth "Penny" Johnston Griffith

In addition to her parents, Grace Virginia Minter Johnston and Clemmer Andrew Johnston, Penny was also preceded in death by her husband Frederick Timothy Griffith, and her beloved aunt and uncle Ruth Minter and Edouard Poliquin (‘Amboo and Eddie’).

Penny leaves four children to cherish her memory, Blair Skipper (Brett), Brian Griffith (Diane), Page Griffith and Kevin Griffith (Jennifer). She is also survived by her brother, Richard Johnston (Anthony), brother- and sister-in-law Douglas & Kisoon Griffith, and three grandchildren, Virginia Grace (Tristin), Logan Timothy and Christopher Lance, along with her last rescue, Bruster.

Before moving to Georgia in 2007, Penny made her home in south Florida where she was a teacher in Broward County Schools for 25 years. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, animal lover, nature lover, book lover and friend. She was devoted to rescuing pets and never met a stranger.

Nicknamed, ‘Dog Rescue Mom’, Penny is now reuniting with her past pets: General MacArthur, Eggnog, Taffy, Buddy and Bogie, Tuffy, Sunshine, Shadow and Blue, Sugar, Little Sugar Ann and Pup Pup.

Penny loved the ocean and treasured reunions every spring in Duck, NC with her childhood girlfriends “Old Squaws” from Maury High School in Norfolk, VA – class of 1954.
