Born in the Bronx, New York, on March 8, 1943, Stan was the son of Emmanuel Czik and Valli Lederer, both immigrants who came to America with hope for a better life. He grew up in Queens with his sister, Judi, and carried with him the grit and humor of a first-generation New Yorker.
Stan proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. Though he rarely spoke of his service, his patriotism was evident in all he did.
In Queens, he met and married the love of his life, Mary Jane “Jane” Vafides. Together they shared 56 years of marriage, raising their children Glenn and Michelle on Long Island before later moving to Atlanta to be closer to their grandchildren.
A born entrepreneur, Stan worked tirelessly—often 70 hours a week—to provide for his family. Before his retirement, he owned a Wine and Spirits shop and built a reputation for curating fine wine lists for restaurants and enthusiasts.
Above all else, Stan cherished his role as husband, father, and “Papa.” He adored his grandsons James and Benjamin and loved welcoming everyone to the family table. Known for his quick wit, practical jokes, and warm heart, he brought laughter and love wherever he went. He loved animals, cooking, golf, and even his regular Costco runs. He lived by the motto “All is Good”, a phrase that reflected his optimism and generosity of spirit.
Stan is survived by his wife, Jane; his children Glenn Czik, and Michelle (Andrew) Fritz; his grandchildren James and Benjamin; nieces and nephews; and countless friends who became family.
He will be remembered for his humor, hard work, generosity, and the love he poured into those around him.
