On Friday, June 9, 2023 God called home one of His true Angels, Vanessa Yvonne Herbert. Vanessa was born in Harlem, NY on September 3, 1957 to the late Elaine Norford and Alfonso Taylor. Her family later moved to the Bronx, NY and this is where Vanessa spent most of her childhood.
After graduating from high school, Vanessa became employed with the Dime Savings Bank in New York. She then transferred to their office in Georgia. Vanessa later left the Dime Savings Bank and began working for Lifeway Christian Book Store. Here is where Vanessa truly let her light shine. She was always a blessing to see when you walked into the store, mainly because you could see the God in her.
On August 19, 1976, Vanessa married the love of her life, Angelo Herbert. From that union, two beautiful children were born; Natasha Lanette and Angelo Jamar. Vanessa and Angelo did everything together and shared a passion for family and traveling. She valued spending quality time with her family, friends and her church family. Some of Vanessa’s favorite pastimes were putting together jigsaw puzzles, playing handball, paddle ball, cards, and board games. However, her favorite pastime was reading God’s Word. Vanessa was affectionately known for giving you the “best hug” you’ve ever received. You could literally feel the love from her and love of Christ in those hugs. Vanessa loved her children dearly, and was absolutely crazy about her grandchildren.
In March of 1998, Vanessa joined Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Roswell, GA under the leadership of the late Reverend Dr. Frank Lewis. There she became a faithful member who served in the following ministries: The Sanctuary Choir, Gospel Choir, Mass Choir, Women’s Choir, Women’s Ministry, Women’s Bible Study, Friday Night Prayer meeting, Usher’s Ministry, Kairos Prison Ministry, Stephens Ministry, Evangelism Ministry, and Lifeline Lead for Small Group Bible Study. She also was a devoted servant at the Lee Arrendale Women’s Facility.
Vanessa was preceded in death by her parents and her three brothers; Al Taylor, Tom Norford, and Lemondrop Norford. Her amazing life and bountiful legacy will forever be cherished in the lives of her loving husband, Angelo Herbert; two children; Natasha Herbert, and Angelo Jamar (Jasmyne) Herbert; six grandchildren; Michael Herbert, Destiny Herbert, Justin White, Marcus Herbert, Amaris Herbert, and Marcel Herbert; two brothers; Shayaa Lawrence Muhammad, and Dennis Norford; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and her Zion church family.
A memorial service for Vanessa will be held Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 888 Zion Cir, Roswell, GA 30075.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.roswellfuneralhome.com for the Herbert family.
