

He was born March 19, 1926 in Yonkers, NY, but moved with his family to Atlanta when he was a year old. He was the son of the late William Halliburton and Reita Whitcomb Massey of Little Rock, AR. He was preceded in death by his sister DeLores Massey Hines of Indianapolis, Ind. Bill Graduated from Tech High School in Atlanta in 1944 and entered the U.S. Navy Air Corps. While in the V5 program he attended Emory and Duke Universities.
Subsequently, he served aboard the USS Chevalier in the Pacific. He graduated from the Georgia State University in Atlanta. He worked for Plantation Pipe Line Company for 43 years and retired in 1991. He worked hard and took care of his family all the days of his life. He loved to work with his hands and spent many hours with his hobby of building intricate scaled models of sailing vessels. He also enjoyed working in his yard and playing golf. He was a life- long Methodist and member of the Alpharetta First United Methodist Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Jane; his daughter Laura Massey Willbanks and son- in-law Richard, of Cartersville, GA; his son William Calvin Massey and daughter- in- law Lynn, of Flagler Beach, FL; his granddaughter Stephanie Willbanks Walker and her husband Terry, a great- grandson Evan Blake Walker, and great- granddaughter Ava Kathryn Walker; his grandson Justin Willbanks and his wife Kara, two great granddaughters Avery Grace Willbanks and Reagan Leigh Willbanks; and nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. He was a member of PI Kappa Alpha Fraternity and the American Legion. A visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Funeral services will be held at Alpharetta First United Methodist Church, 69 N Main St. at 3:00 p.m. on Monday December 14, 2015 with Dr. Don Martin and Dr. Joe Bowen officiating. Following the service the interment will be held at Green Lawn Cemetery, Roswell, GA. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Alpharetta First United Methodist Church or the Salvation Army, online or 1000 Center Place, Norcross, GA 30093.
