I was just reminded of something at work and it made me think of you- my coworker was telling me a story that involved a woman wearing 'moo-moos' and I couldn't help but feel nostalgic. Now, we all know moo-moo's aren't exactly the embodiment of 'style' per say, but you sure knew how to make them look good! I remember being a kid and wanting a floral moo-moo just like yours! You always looked so pretty and chic in those god-awful things! I had a good laugh and just wanted to share...

You were so much more than just my God Mother. You were my father's confidant & best friend. For that I am very blessed. My heart fills with sentimental memories of my youth whenever I hear, smell, taste & see things that remind me of you. You taught me life lessons that I will always hold near & dear to my heart. May your soul have peace & happiness with my Uncle Nacho, my Nana, my Uncle Frank, my Dad, and all of our loved ones that you now join in heaven. You will forever be my Tia as I will always be your Little Rachan. I love you!

My Aunt Mary is the last of the great generation in our family.  She had the strength to persevere in any situation with an amazing grace and dignity we may never see again.  As a little girl, I remember all of the special attention she would give me and all of the wonderful presents, especially on Christmas.  Mary Lou got me my first two-piece bathing suit and the list of gifts go on and on.  She really did take all of the time the world with me.  We would sit and talk for hours and she always made feel so special each time I would come and visit her.  Of course camping at San Clemente was the highlight of our summers.  We loved being there with my two cousins Bobby and Ernie.  
Mary Lou was more than an Aunt to me, she was a second mother.

What do you do when you run out of creamer for your coffee? You use vanilla ice cream of course! My nana sure knew how to live in 'luxury'... Besides her decadent creamer, I can still remember her red puff top Piloma Picasso perfume bottle (I have the free umbrella with purchase to prove it), her lucite heels and her face creams that smelled of roses. I remember watching AMC and Turner Classic pining over the stars of yesteryear and their magnificent style! I remember thumbing thru her book collection and finding a book on etiquette and thinking how my nana is just such a lady! I remember the burnt orange carpet in the 'special room', i remember the Christmas tree always having matching ornaments in the same color, I remember having In and Out milkshakes (treat yourself once in a while!)... Nana was always so fancy to me, she had the special table wear for different occasions, she had special glasses, she just had a way of making gatherings a little more magical with her special touches. Nana will be missed but she will never be forgotten- she lives on in those special moments, like when you really just feel like putting ice cream in your coffee.

Mary Lou, thank you for a lifetime of memories and for all your love!! We all carry a part of you in our hearts and minds, that great smile, laugh and your easily recognized voice.  You are in a better place now with Nacho and your brothers. Say hello to everyone, we miss you all and the great family gatherings!

I will always love you, Aunt Mary! I'll never forget how you comforted me when I went through hard times in my childhood. You meant so much to me. I'll never forget you!

Aunt Mary is my childhood. She is past Christmases in the gold room with mirror ornaments hanging on her tree. She is hot chocolate with marshmallows. She is the warm breeze eating tangerines off her tree on her patio. She is BBQs at her house eating shishkabobs with a side of calabasitas (or as my cousins always called it, calabash). Aunt Mary is long talks about everything going on in our lives around her kitchen table. She is sneaking in episodes of Young and the Restless in the afternoon and feeling like I just got away with something bad because my parents would never allow me to watch this soap at home. Aunt Mary is a long line of poodles named, Poo. And, most of all, Aunt Mary is my touchstone to my dad. There are so many wonderful memories I have of my aunt. Aunt Mary is my childhood, and for that, she will always hold a fond place in my heart! I love you Aunt Maryforever and ever!

Remembering those good old days when life was simple and joy surrounded us.
At first you did not approve of me.  I was in no way good enough for your son Bob.  Thankfully I grew on you. At least I think I did...I know I did!
Memories of weekend family adventures to Oak Glen, Solvang, Arrowhead and Griswold's (for those amazing bran muffins). Fun was had by all! Family BBQ's were always a blast out on the patio overlooking the grove.  We would laugh for hours listening to all the crazy stories of the past.  I would give anything to capture one of the days again.  Too fast they escaped us, but never to leave us, the memories we will cherish forever.
Thank you Mary for sharing with me your wisdom and family recipes. Especially your stuffing and amazing enchiladas (your secrets are safe with me)!  I am forever grateful.
I hope as I am thinking of you now you are with all your loved ones telling those amazing stories and laughing you heads off!

Remembering Mary when she was in any room is remembering a Beautiful person who Loved Life with her family, Grandchildren and friends. She was always filled with Life and enjoyed sharing it. A truly genuine person! 

May God now Bless her and take her home to be with Him! No more pain Mary! Just laughter in Heaven!

My nana was one of the most important people in my upbringing. She and my grandpa are the reason I am who I turned out to be. She was the reason for so much good in my life. She was a drive home from school with the radio on KIIS FM where we learned that you sing your heart out to every good tune that comes on. She was short jaunts to Rite Aide to get black cherry, rocky road and vanilla ice cream because it was just too dang hot in the house and sometimes (more often than not) life just deserve something sweet to celebrate. For my nana, you never really needed an excuse to indulge in dessert. My nana was all the crawling around on the floor it took to tell us to take our bedroom fort down because, "wouldn't it be more fun outside with grandpa," and outside is where our imaginations grew and our story-telling skills were honed. My nana was a gossip magazine fiend and to this day, nothing screams relaxation like a cool drink, a gossip magazine and a little outside air. My nana is the memory of swimming in my Uncle Bob's pool with my cousins as the smell of roasted hot dogs filled the air and we learned that having fun always included laughter. She was the hot summers glued (literally) to the brown leather couch as my brother and I leaned against her shoulder watching Elizabeth Taylor kiss James Dean in Giant, or Scarlet walk gracefully down those stairs. She is the reason traditions exist, like "untarring" in the kitchen with the windows up, steam coming from the stove and Andy Williams' Christmas Songs on in the background. My nana was so much of the good memories I have of being a child and what I hold onto as an adult in the hopes of passing on to my own children; the ideas of adventure, wonder, just a little bit of cynicism, and definitely imagination and laughter.
