Alice Froilan Pambid was born October 16, 1929 in Laoang, Samar, Philippine Islands to Buenaventura and Obdulia Froilan. She died peacefully in her sleep on March 13, 2024 at the age of 94. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Roque Santos Hugo, former husband Sal Dean and son Edwin Michael Pambid. She is survived by her children Janis Marzan (Raymond), Ronald Hugo, Joyce Hugo Pereira, Allan Hugo, Judith Dunkelberger (Randy), Edgar Pambid (Agnes) and Edmund Pambid. She is survived by former husband, Francisco (Ranz) Pambid. Alice was matriarch to five generations, survived by 21 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, and 14 great, great grandchildren.
Alice loved learning. She continued her education and graduated from Sacramento City College with an AA degree. She had a lengthy career with the Department of Motor Vehicles, retiring after 26 years. She also worked as the first Filipino state-certified interpreter for the AT&T Language Line and interpreted for the California Court System as well, retiring from there at age 88.
During those years, Alice was compassionate and busy in the Filipino community serving as president, vice president, secretary and treasurer for the Visayan Association of Sacramento & Vicinity, also serving in the American Legion Auxiliary, Filipino Women's Club, Filipino Family Fraternity and many other groups. She always did her best, volunteering her time and energy to help Filipinos through these organizations.
Alice loved music, dancing, cooking for her growing family, barbecues and swimming with her grandchildren in her backyard pool. She likes making her homemade Filipino dessert Bico, flower arranging and playing piano.
Friends are invited to the Viewing/Rosary service for Alice to be held Friday, April 5, 2024 from 5:00 to 9:00 pm at Harry A. Nauman & Son 4041 Freeport Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95822. A funeral Mass will occur Saturday, April 6, 2024 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at St. Paul's Catholic Church 8720 Florin Rd, Sacramento, CA 95828. The burial service is scheduled Saturday, April 6, 2024 from 12:00 to 1:00 pm at St. Mary's Cemetery 6700 21st Avenue, Sacramento, CA 95820.
