It is with great love that we share the life of our mom, the amazing, strong and beautiful Anne Mary Karneges Manolis, who passed on Thursday, October 27, 2016. She was born in Woodland to Greek immigrant parents, Vasili & Helen Karneges on February 26, 1924. She lived in Sacramento until age 8 when the family moved to Yuba City where as a young woman she worked hard, alongside her family in their peach orchards. She attended Yuba City High School, and Yuba College before attending California College of Arts & Crafts, Berkeley, where her artistic skills flourished and she earned her secondary Teacher's Credential. She was married to Gus Manolis in 1948 and they had four children; George (who passed at age 3), Timothy (Annette), Carrie and Georgianne. After our father passed in 1958, we moved from Chico to Sacramento where Mom became the head of the household. Her strength, resilience and loving spirit were inspiring to all who loved and met her. Our mom returned for her Elementary Teacher's credential at Sacramento State. Her great love for all children inspired her to teach Kindergarten at Clayton B. Wire Elementary School for 25+ years. For the past 15 years she braved Parkinson’s while she lived at Gramercy Court, Sacramento where she received excellent care. Mom was preceded in death by her older sisters Marian Nicholau, Connie Hrones and beloved grandson Sam Vincent. She leaves behind her children, sister Georgia Econome, grandchildren Cassandra Walters (Bill), Ellen Manolis Martin (Jon), along with great grandchildren Matt Walters, Lucille & Gus Martin. Our mother was also treasured by many loving nephews, nieces and godson. Anne Mary Karneges Manolis was truly one of a kind and we, her children, family and friends will dearly miss her and eternally love her. Trisagion – Thursday, November 3 at 6:30pm Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation, Sacramento; Funeral Friday, November 4 at 10am at St. Katherine’s Greek Orthodox Church, Elk Grove. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Sam Vincent Foundation (samvincentfoundation.org) or checks: Sam Vincent Foundation, 1442A Walnut St. #182, Berkeley, CA 94709.
