

Bessie was born in San Francisco, CA to Lew Shee Ng and Ng Quong Ming of China on July 17, 1917. Her family moved to Oakland, CA when she was six years old. Bessie was educated in Oakland and graduated from Oakland High School and the Merritt Business College. After graduation, Bessie worked in the Superintendent’s office of the Oakland School District. Her father, Ng Quong Ming, owned a sewing factory in San Francisco, and in 1936 hired Bessie to work as the bookkeeper. She helped to convert the Chinese bookkeeping records into English. Bessie met Paul Yee, of Sacramento, CA in May of 1937, and she became his beloved wife on October 16, 1937. Their union would last for 56 years, until Paul’s death in 1994. In 1956, Bessie was hired as the Statistical Technician for the Research Department of the Stockton Unified School District, where she worked for 26 years. She retired in 1982. Bessie’s greatest joy in life was her family. Lovingly, she raised four children and is survived by son Leland Yee and daughters Jadine Wong and Janice Mah. Son Ronald Yee and son-in-law Darryl Wong preceded her in death. Bessie is survived by daughter-in-law Judy Yee, son-in-law Roger Mah and grandchildren Korinne Yee-McCown, Janay Wong, Alexis Wong and great grandchildren Tyler, Brittney, and Cameron McCown. Bessie died August 3, 2012 at the age of 95. She was a blessing and treasure to all who knew her. Thank you, mom, for your gift of love and graciousness.
A celebration of Bessie’s life will be held on Sunday, August 26, 11:00 AM at Harry Nauman & Son, 4041 Freeport Blvd., Sacramento, 95823, followed by Burial Services at East Lawn Memorial Park, 4300 Folsom Blvd. A reception will follow.
