Carol was born in San Francisco, California on 4 October 1941 to Norval Eugene Dailey of Richmond, California and Elaine Noreen McNulty of Yreka, California.
She grew up in San Francisco on Arguello Blvd. until the age of 8 when the family moved to Hollywood Park in Sacramento, California where Carol was in the Girl Scouts and Job’s Daughters.
One of Carol’s fondest memories, that she loved to share, was her adventure at the age of 13. She was asked to accompany a neighboring family to Los Angeles on a working vacation trip to be the babysitter of two younger boys. One evening the father returned from work with tickets to an opening the next day of a place called “Disneyland”. They went the day before opening day in 1955. This memory gave her such joy in her final year.
Carol attended McClatchy High School, graduating in 1959. She continued her education, receiving a Bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Davis in 1963.
It was while she was in college that Carol met the love of her life, Richard Alan Marques, at a picnic in 1961 shortly after the death of her father. They became engaged on Valentine’s Day in 1962 and were married on 26 January 1963. The college had housing for married students, and they lived there until she graduated.
Carol and Richard had their first child Sharon in 1964 and purchased their first home in 1965. Their second child, Richard Jr (Ric) arrived in 1967.
Carol was dedicated to her family, enjoyed spending time with her friends playing Bunco, and being a member of a birthday club called Hags and Bags. She was always the first one to volunteer for a fundraiser and she was deeply involved in all of her children’s interests and activities, including Brownies, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts, running snack bars at soccer games and model airplane tournaments, making treats during homecoming flower fluffing parties and she loved going to the theater shows her daughter was involved in.
Genealogy was also a big part of Carol’s life. She and her daughter Sharon spent countless hours in the 1970’s and 80’s working on their family history.
Carol and Rich retired early in life to be able to spend time traveling. They cruised to Alaska and the Panama Canal, took a train trip through Canada, went on several bus tours throughout the US, drove to the Grand Canyon and flew to the East Coast several times to visit family and see the sights.
When her mother needed to be cared for, Carol moved her into their home and became her full-time caregiver.
Carol and Rich moved to Roseville, California in 2011 to be closer to their family. It was here that their children cared for them, allowing them both to pass away in their own home eighteen months apart.
Carol is survived by daughter Sharon Marques and her wife Rochelle Leavitt, son Ric Marques, grandsons Richard Marques III and Brandon Marques, granddaughters Savannah White and Stephanie Marques, great-grandsons Joseph and Corbin Marques, sister-in-law Marilyn Dailey, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Kenneth and Susan Marques, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ronald and Mary Marques, several cousins, numerous nieces and nephews, and dear friends Linda, Edie, Nancy, Sharon and Lucy. She was preceded in death by her parents, her in-laws Tony and Genevieve (Jochim) Marques, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Sandra (Marques) and Roy Canady, brother Roger Dailey, nieces Barbara Canady and Pamela Canady Marques and her beloved husband Richard.
All are invited to a Celebration of Life to be held on Carol and Richard’s 61st Wedding Anniversary on 26 January 2024 at 2pm at Harry Nauman and Sons, 4041 Freeport Blvd., Sacramento. A dessert reception will follow. Private inurnment at St. Mary’s Cemetery will be held earlier that day.
