Don Beasley passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2025, in Sacramento, CA, of cancer and heart disease. He was born May 25, 1936, to Bert James and Celia Emaline (Barnhart) Beasley is Concrete, Skagit, WA. He was raised in Sedro-Woolley, WA, on a strawberry farm and attended Sedro-Wooley High School. During his high school years, Don was active in several sports including basketball, football, and wrestling, winning several awards. He served as a student body officer, played in the band and orchestra, and was a member of the Honor Society, HI-Y, FFA, SW Club, and was Senior Ball King.
Don married Joan Verla Berg, his high school sweetheart, May 26, 1956, in Skagit, WA. Moving to Sacramento, CA, he worked with his uncle Louis Winchester in the family-owned moving company “Land Moving and Storage”, eventually becoming the owner. A daughter, Linda Lee Beasley, was born April 30, 1957, in Sacramento, CA, to Don and Joan. They were divorced by December 6, 1962. Their daughter Linda died September 27, 1965, at the age of 8 due to heart disease. Joan later died in 1995.
On December 30, 1962, Don married Edna June (White) Brown in Reno, Nevada, and became “Papa” to June’s two daughters, Darelyn and Brenda. Don was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on January 9, 1964, and he and June were sealed in the Oakland California Temple on June 5, 1965. Don served in many church callings. He and June enjoyed years of traveling, and they especially loved serving in the LDS temples. After selling his moving company, he created Don’s Pool Service which he sold after June’s death on February 6, 1999. In December of that year, Don married his third wife, Dorothy (Hollins) “Dottie” Lown, who died Nov 22, 2004.
Don was known as being a workaholic, always wanting to be busy. He played the trumpet in the California Army National Guard, 40th Infantry Division Band for about seven years. He enjoyed fishing, playing rec softball, gardening on the weekends, and golfing. He even made the local paper Saturday, September 14, 2002, by hitting a 150-yard hole in one on the 16th hole at Bing Maloney Golf Course. He loved helping people, especially helping them move, was always there for his step-grandchildren, and had a forgiving heart in his business dealings as well as in his personal life. His selflessness was evident one summer day while vacationing in Washington. One of Don’s step-grandsons fell into a swift running river. Giving no heed to the fact that he could not swim, Don jumped into the river. On the third attempt, he was finally able to grab ahold of Jamey and pull him out of the river, saving his life.
Don is survived by three step-daughters: Darelyn Kleary of Eureka, CA; Brenda (Amado) Sabala of Sacramento, CA; and Sandra (Ric) Nunley of Salt Lake City, UT; step-grandchildren Amado “Jamey” Sabala, Nicholaus “Nick” Sabala, Rachel Espinoza, Michael Sabala, and Anthony “Tony” Sabala; step-great grandchildren Julian Sabala, Jacob and Jayden Espinoza, and Leah and Anthony Sabala, Jr.
The family would like to express appreciation to the many friends of Don’s who have given so much time and service, members of the Bradshaw Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Snowline Hospice, and the caregivers and staff at Regency Place in Sacramento.
