Dorothea Elaine Russell

Dorothea Elaine Russell, known affectionately as Dort to her close friends, was born on September 23, 1946, in San Francisco, California. She passed away peacefully on March 20, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness that will forever resonate with her family and friends.

Dorothea was the cherished mother of two daughters, Sheri and Sandra Russell, and a beloved grandmother to four grandchildren: Meaghan, Christopher, Kody, and Conner. As the second oldest of five siblings, she nurtured strong bonds with her family throughout her life.

A talented seamstress, Dorothea made beautiful costumes for the River City Theatrical Company, crafted wedding dresses, and created everyday clothing. Her passion for sewing extended to making blankets and quilts, each piece reflecting her love and dedication. A naturally creative soul, she had a gift for coming up with many craft ideas that brought joy to those around her.

Her creativity shone brightly during the holiday season, as neighbors and loved ones cherished her breathtaking Christmas decorations. The joy they brought to her community was a testament to her generous spirit and love for bringing people together.

Dorothea dedicated over 20 years as a Girl Scout leader, inspiring countless young girls with her passion for service. She also volunteered at Senior Gleaners and Sutter Fort, where she used her sewing skills to support those in need, leaving a lasting impact on the community.

In addition to her family, Dorothea leaves behind her beloved dogs, Diesel and Pasha, who brought her joy and companionship.

Dorothea will be remembered for her unwavering love, dedication to service, and the countless lives she enriched. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A viewing will be held at Lombard Funeral Home at 8:00 AM, followed by a celebration of her life at 9:00 AM on March 30, 2026. She will then be buried at East Lawn Memorial Park at 11:00 AM. Following the burial, a potluck will be held at her home, located at 2560 Sierra Blvd.
