

As soon as he was able he enlisted into the Army. Ernie was part of the Pacific Campaigns in World War Two, and helped liberate the Philippines after landing at Leyte. He was a combat infantryman and quickly climbed the ranks. After serving his country he came home and began his career working decades for Pacific Warehouse and Palm Iron. He owned a trailer at Lawson's landing for 55 years and from there once he retired, he began to commercial fish for salmon out of Tomales bay and continued that for many years.
While raising his family, Ernie always led by action rather than words. He walked a life of humility and integrity. He was very involved in his community. He was a little league coach, Cub and Boy Scout leader, and even taught roller skating. He was part of the local VFW and American Legion Chapters as well. He enjoyed sports with a particular love for baseball. After retirement he was a Volunteer in Policing (VIP) for West Sacramento Police department.
Ernie enjoyed traveling the world with his wife. He also had a knack with wood making. His craftsmanship matched his character as everything he made was built strong and to last.
In the summers he would usher his grandchildren to the beach to spend weeks with them. He loved having them there to enjoy natures delight with. He had quite the green thumb, he loved to garden and can Eisley's peppers from his backyard garden.
Ernie will be greatly missed. He had a magnetic smile that would light up any room and his heart was made of gold. Ernie adored and led his family with courage and strength. He was the epitome of what a father should be and blessed all who entered his life.
Ernie was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Clara Cumbra. His brothers, Jack Cumbra, Dick Cumbra, Chuck Cumbra and most recently Harry Cumbra. Ernie was survived by his wife of 61 years Nadyne Cumbra, son Ernie (Debbie), Daughter Kim Moore (Jim), Grandchildren, Brian Cumbra (Nicole), Trisha Cumbra, Staci Carbone (Jon), and Taylor Moore. Great Grandchildren Adriana, Michael, Isabella, Sydney and Mason.
Ernie spent his last week and moments surrounded by his family. He departed his world on Saturday evening which happened to be 70 years to the date of his separation from the military. He will be truly missed.
