Felicia Marie Boumann was born on July 2, 1934, in Indonesia to loving parents, Fredrick and Paula Carels. She is survived by one sister Regina Zweers three children Patty, Paul, Peter, seven grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. She has two deceased bothers Peter and Hein Bernahard Carels.
Felicia was a survivor and fearless. She endured the horrors of WWII concentration camps and the loss of her husband at 40, left to raise three young children alone. Yet she never saw herself as a victim—only as someone facing life’s challenges head-on.
She immigrated to the U.S. in 1960, pregnant with her first child, and built a new life in a foreign land. After her husband’s death, she chose to stay in Pleasanton, honoring his wish to raise their family there. Her strength came from her faith—she believed God would always protect her children, and she fought fiercely for them and later for her grandchildren.
Felicia’s love was active and unconditional. She helped anyone in need, even strangers, never fearing being taken advantage of. She gave freely, lived humbly, and passed with few possessions—just as she wanted. She found joy in BLTs, tacos, dancing, and never stopped loving her husband.
My mother was a doer, not a talker. She had flaws but trusted in God’s grace. Though she rarely spoke these words, I believe she lived by them:
• Love God, don’t fear Him
• Pray every day
• Live fully and have fun
• Don’t let possessions weigh you down
• Trust the future to God
• Love your family without limits
“Felicia’s legacy lives on in the strength, love, and faith she instilled in all of us. May we carry her spirit forward—with courage, compassion, and joy.”
