On Wednesday, Dec 7, Gary Lee Clifford, loving husband, and father of two, passed away at the Sacramento Veterans Medical Center following an extended battle with cancer. He was 74. Gary was born in Menomonie, Wisconsin, son of the late Catherine Hase and Danna Clifford. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 52 years, Winifred. He is also survived by his son, Wilfred and wife Patricia, daughter Carla and partner Brian, and grandchildren Nicholas, Alicia, Kaitlynn, and Joseph, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Gary proudly served his country and was a veteran of The United States Air Force. He retired from the military in 1988, after 22 years of service, and started his own successful trucking company alongside his wife. They closed the business in 2013.
Gary was an avid reader, jokester, and patriot. He enjoyed classic cars, wearing sandals with socks (!), dancing to Bob Seger’s "Old Time Rock & Roll", and driving his fifth wheel to the beach. He delighted in going to Hawaii and sitting in the sun next to his wife. While he loved the simple things in life -- travelling, playing cards, drinking a Bud Light, and watching football -- his greatest love was spending time with family and friends.
A memorial service will be held Monday, December 19th at 11a.m. at Nicoletti, Culjis & Herberger Funeral Home, with a viewing from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. the same day. Burial with full military honors to follow at Camellia Memorial Lawn. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gary’s memory to The Tunnels to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, New York, 10306
