

Age 86, of Sacramento died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, at Mercy General Hospital in Sacramento, CA.
Born Nov. 5, 1925, in New Roads, LA, George was the son of Amos and Georgiana Evans. He was a retired veteran of the Air Force, having served during World War II and Korean wars. He began his service in Nov. 1944 and retired in Feb. 1965. He also completed an encore career with the State of California. He worked at the Air Resources Building and later the Department of Motor Vehicle on Broadway as a custodian and retired with 20 years of service. He was a member of St. Robert Catholic Church in Sacramento for more than 50 years.
George is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carrie Mae Evans; six children: Joseph Michael Evans, of Sacramento; George Evans, Jr., of Reno, NV; Donna (Greg) Burke of El Dorado Hills; Cynthia Evans of Sacramento; Warren Evans (Nina) of Elk Grove; and Karon (Tyrone) Pollard of San Diego; six brothers and two sisters: Sidney Boyd of Sacramento; Raphael (Stella) and George Boyd of Baton Rouge, LA; Mildred Tillman of Houston, TX; Amos (Barbara) Evans of Los Angeles; John L. (Willean) Evans of Anchorage, AK; Rose (Vic) Richard of New Orleans, LA; Verna (Eugene) St. Amant of Cypress; James (Phyllis) Larry Boyd of Riverside; 13 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; godson Terry Thompson, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Amos and Georgiana Evans; uncle and aunt, William (Virginia) Boyd, Sr., of New Roads, LA; uncle, William LeBeau of New Orleans, LA; uncle, Walter LeBeau of New Orleans, LA; brothers, William (Velma) and John Wesley Boyd of Baton Rouge, LA; father-in-law, Jodi Turner, and step mother-in-law, Lee Turner of Gardena; mother-in-law, Willie Mae Avant of Sacramento; a brother-in-law, Joe Tillman of New Orleans, LA; and three sisters-in-law, Thelma Desormes Boyd and Bertha Desormes Boyd of Baton Rouge, LA and Katherine 'Kat' Boyd of Sacramento.
The viewing will be held Nov. 2nd from 4-6 pm, followed by a rosary at Harry A. Nauman & Son at 4041 Freeport Blvd. in Sacramento. Father Santiago E. Raudes will preside at the funeral mass on Nov. 3rd at 11 am at St. Robert Church at 2243 Irvin Way in Sacramento. George's interment will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery at 6700 21st Avenue in Sacramento.
