George Krikor Sarkisian

12-26-1928 TO 7-17-2017

George passed away peacefully on July, 17 2017 at his home on Edison Way, in Sacramento Co. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Youghoper and Nishan, His brother Manoog and sister Victoria.

George was born in Canada and his parents moved to the U.S. when he was very young. He grew up in Worcester Massachusetts, and attended the Worcester Boys Trade School where he learned to make patterns for casting metals. George joined the Navy in 1946 at 17, serving in the Caribbean at Roosevelt Roads Naval Station and later in the Pacific on an aircraft carrier where he became an aircraft sheet metal smith. After his discharge George wound up in Long Beach, Ca where he learned to work with commercial sheet metal in a blacksmith shop.

George moved north to Sacramento and got a job at McClellan AFB in 1951 as an aircraft sheet metal worker. He worked at the base for 34 years where he became the go to guy for the more difficult repairs.

During the years working at McClellan and in retirement George loved family outings and could be seen in this 1956 pick-up with its camper shell, fishing, camping and traveling to his jobs at Air Force Bases around the country.

After retirement in 1985 George reestablished himself as a pattern maker, working with many of the manufacturers in the Sacramento area. In this time George became a self-taught machinist, working in metals and wood. Some of his works can be seen in the Shooting magazines showing Lugers and P38 pistols.

George leaves behind one nephew and three nieces. George has left many friends behind who will miss his stories and the help he gave them with making parts and repairs.

A Memorial Service will be held at Lombard’s Funeral Home, at 1550 Fulton Ave on Friday, Aug.4, at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private at Masis Ararat Armenian Cemetery in Fresno, CA.

The Family has asked to contribute to the American Cancer Association in lieu of Flowers.
