

Leon Hansen, 90, a resident of Sacramento for almost sixty-years, passed peacefully from this life on October 11, 2015, at Atria El Camino Gardens from complications due to Alzheimer's disease. Leon Hansen and his twin sister Lillian were born in April 1925, on the family farm near Rush Center, Kansas. Lillian died the next day, while Leon lived to the age of 90. He attended the Pretty Prairie School, a 1-room country school house, before moving to California with his family during the Dust Bowl of the 1930's. Leon served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific. A graduate of Kansas State University, Leon spent the majority of his career as an accountant for the California Department of Conservation. He married Charlotte Ann Feeney on Valentine's Day 1953. They had six children, twins Matt and Mark, Bruce, Gail, Joan and Neil. Leon shared his passion for travel by camping with his family at all of the national parks in the West over the years, and on long driving trips to Kansas to visit relatives. He also loved airplanes and was a long-time member of the Experimental Aircraft Association. Leon was a dedicated father, grandfather and great-grandfather and an active member of the Catholic Church. Mr. Hansen was preceded in death by his parents Dave and Christine, brother Willard and sister Roma, son Matt, and is survived by his wife Charlotte Hansen; sons Mark Hansen, Bruce Hansen and Neil Hansen; daughters Gail Struble and Joan Blair; and twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 15, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and a Rosary will be said for Mr. Hansen at 6:30 p.m., at Lombard and Company Funeral Directors, 1550 Fulton Avenue, Sacramento. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 16, at Presentation Catholic Church, 4123 Robertson Avenue, Sacramento, followed by burial at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 7101 Verner Avenue, Sacramento. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be sent in his memory to the Loaves and Fishes Ministry at www.sacloaves.org. The family wishes to thank the caring Life Guidance staff at Atria El Camino Gardens in Sacramento for their dedicated care of Leon over the last ten months of his life.
