Rick and Christie, Your mom was an inspiration to all and especially held in highest regard by my father. Loved by all, for sure. My daughter's middle name is given with your mom in mind. Fortunately, I was able to share that with her before her passing. Mike Brooks

I will remember our wonderful trip to the Azores, her funny comments about my Dad, the annual visits in Pacific Grove...and her "review" of my latest hairstyles. She was absolutely beautiful -- inside and out.

Dave, Christie, and Annie....your Mother/Grandmother was and will ever be the shining light in so many of our lives. Without Marie many of us would not have gone on to be Counselors and had the wonderful experiences she always told us about. I will forever be grateful for her tough but loving mentorship and for never severing the embilical cord.

Marie was my idol. She was smart, beautiful, funny and kind. She helped me enormously in those first years of teaching.  I am forever in her debt.

My condolences on the passing of your dear mother. Marie was a counselor at Casa Roble H.S. when I started there as a new teacher. I always remember her support and kindness to me. Truly a classy lady!

When Christie was in her early twenties she brought home 3 young men for Marie's review and told her that she was going to marry one of them.  She then asked Marie to guess which one would become her husband.  Marie immediately and without hesitation said the one on the left.  Christie said that Marie was correct and inquired as to how she able to correctly identify her husband to be.  Marie said, because he's the one I don't like.
What can be said about Marie is that never let a first impressions dictate a relationship.  In fact, this generous lady found much to like about everyone not named George Bush.  One of Marie's most endearing qualities besides her politics was her welcoming smile- because it was genuine.  Her list of questions to me were almost always the same and in the same order:
How is Annie or have you heard from Annie?  How does the team look?  Are Dan, Rick and Jake still helping out?  All her questions were about what she knew was most important to you and each question was as genuine as her smile.  
Her most often refrain was a description of her remarkable Annie and how she inherited good qualities from both her parents.  As you can see Marie wasn't always correct in her assessments.  What she failed to recognize is that many of the fine qualities, kindness, sensitivity, the ability to listen and make people feel good about themselves were traits she passed on to her granddaughter.
In the end, that is what I will remember most about what Marie gave to us.  A model for being a good person.  Over the past few years her illness robbed her of her short term memory and energy, but the illness could not take away her heart nor her sense of humor.
I would often joke about some fictional crime perpetrated against me by Christie and Marie's immediate response was that Christie must have learned that behavior from Frank.  We will all miss her.

As a Guidance Counselor at Casa Roble High, Mrs. Cruzen was a mentor/friend for all "her" students.  She joyously gave of herself through her wisdom and encouragement and kindness. She was a blessing to and a great friend of our family for many years.

Dearest Marie - such an important and wonderful part of our lives.  We love you and will miss you forever.  Teo and 'Bum'

Bright oranges and fuchsias are the colors I see when I think of you, Marie.  It was not only your wardrobe but your personality.  Such a bright, cheerful, funny, sunny person.  I will miss you so very much at our family get-togethers.  You always had something warm and wonderful to say to everyone.  I have such fond memories of you and I'm so grateful that you were part of my family -- and still are.  We love you, Marie, and I know we'll see you again. With much love, Lissy
