Marvin Floyd Flaming

Marvin was the youngest of two children born to Edward and Anna Flaming on August 24,

1940 in Premont, Texas. As a child, Marvin’s family moved to Fresno, CA, where he later

attended high school in nearby Reedley, CA and went on to attend college at Fresno State. He

received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1963 and spent over 30 years

practicing his trade. He served in two branches of the military as a reservist.

He was introduced to his wife to be, Meredith Youngren, by friends in Sacramento and they

went on a blind date and eventually married on November 28, 1970. They had their first

daughter, Shana in 1973 and their second daughter, Amy in 1976. He worked hard to make

sure his family were taken care of and felt loved every day.

Marvin and his family lived in Vancouver, Washington, Fountain Valley and Fair Oaks, California,

and Camas, Washington.

Marvin was a devoted follower of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and traveled to Indonesia

as a missionary twice and served in multiple positions in churches that he attended over the

years.

Marvin also loved trains, planes and sailboats. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially Yosemite

and climbed Half Dome at least twice, once putting his toes over the edge. He took his

daughters camping, hiking and backpacking at many scenic locations throughout Northern

California. He took flying lessons, had a model railroad at home, and bought a Montgomery 15

sailboat that he sailed up in Washington. He was able to travel to many places like Africa,

where his daughter Amy and family live, London, Italy, Amsterdam, Hawaii and Mexico. He

enjoyed listening to classical music and any string instruments. He and Meredith spent a lot of

their free time working in their beautiful yard or exploring the Pacific Northwest.

He was preceded in death by his dad, Edward and his mom, Anna.

He is survived by his wife, Meredith Flaming and his daughters, Shana Leigh-Kendall (James Leigh-Kendall) and Amy Wekesa (Amos Wekesa) and his sister Luella McCombs.
