

Michael James Coleman was born January 22nd, 1947, in Bakerfield California to his parents Raford Coleman and Gertrude Hammond he was the oldest of two they shared together with younger brother being Manuel Coleman. The brothers, sometime in life for a brief time, were cared for by their Uncle Johnie Hammond and his wife Carol. Michael along with his brother while young tapped danced and even landed a television performance with the late Sammie Davis Jr.
Michael attended and graduated from Edison high school where he ran track and field as a sport. (hurdles). He was then drafted into the U.S. Army in 1966 where he served in the Vietnam War for a term until returning home. Michael later in life attended and graduated from Deloux School of cosmetology Stockton California where he used those skills for a lot of his adult life.
Michael and Wife Gwendel Johns (Coleman) along with Daughter Deitra Coleman moved to Sacramento in 1979 where he settled as a barber while working with his Uncle Johnie Hammond until he landed his position at the Department of Justice (DOJ) as head of maintenance for over 30 years until he retired at age 65.
Michael was loved by many in his community as he was an upbeat and unique spirit being a jack-of- all trades. He enjoyed playing dominoes, playing pool, and entertaining family and friends alongside his wife since they both had love for music, food, and dancing.
On May 12th, 2026, at age 65 Michael departed this earth and went to live eternally with his heavenly Father. He leaves behind his son Christopher Coleman, daughter Deitra Coleman, Grandsons Duane Dixon Jr., and Dierre Dixon. Grandson Christopher Coleman, Granddaughter Ebony Coleman, along with Great Grandkids and a host of family and friends.
Michael will always be cherished and deeply missed by all who were privileged to know him.
