A longstanding personal injury and workers' compensation attorney in Sacramento, Peter John Donoghue was not your stereotypical lawyer. Kind and generous to everyone, he was popular in his field, the community and among friends and family. Loved by many, Peter was above all, a great family man. On January 22, 1944, Pete was born in Manhattan, New York to parents Lillian Jane and Laurence Leonard Donoghue. Pete was the youngest of siblings Maria-Christine Loraine, Laurence Burrows and Elizabeth Lillian Donoghue. Pete spent his youngest years growing up in Queens, New York and Melbourne, Florida before moving west to California.
Pete graduated from McClatchy High School in 1962, having played varsity football for the Lions. Pete spent his high school summers working on the Davis family ranch in Cedarville, California, where lifelong friendships with Judy, Roger and Kathy Davis began. His bond with the Davis' evolved to that of family.
Following high school, Pete roamed the grounds at the University of California, Berkeley with his fellow Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity brothers. He graduated in 1966 with a degree in Political Science. After serving in the National Guard, Pete received his Juris Doctorate from McGeorge School of Law in 1971.
Pete's law career began at the Crow Law Firm, and as of 1985 Pete established his own law firm. He has maintained a vibrant solo practice to date.
Pete was an active member of the University of California Alumni Association, and he enjoyed taking his family to the Lair of the Golden Bear for over 28 years, and Cal football games. He was a regular on the golf course, as a member of Valley Hi Country Club, and in the winter spent time on the ski slopes.
Pete is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Christy; three children, Tim, Tony (Heather) and Ryan; siblings, Christine, Larry (Bhee) and Elizabeth; and nieces and nephews, Curtis Metz (Heidi), Laurence B. Donoghue, Anne-Merie Crawford (Leigh), John Donoghue (Madeline), Matthew Donoghue, Andrew Donoghue, Katie McCullough and Doreen Donoghue. Pete would certainly have liked to recognize ex-wife Jane Lynne Berry; the Behringer/Raulinaitis/Gruebele families; the Hein/Davis families; Bill and KD Proffit; as well as other extended family, friends, colleagues and in-laws both past and present. Rest in peace Pete, our beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and loving friend.
A service will be held on Saturday, August, 28, 2010, 1:30 PM at Harry A. Nauman & Son Funeral Chapel, 4041 Freeport Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95822. Following the service, a celebration of Pete's life will take place at 4:00 PM at the Valley Hi Country Club, 9595 Franklin Blvd., Elk Grove, CA 95758
