Phyllis is survived by her son Karl, daughter-in-law Kathryn, her four grandchildren Kyle, Alicia, Mitchell and Sara.
Phyllis was born on July 22, 1928 in Canton, China to Yue Biu Ho and Sau Chun Liu as the third child of 8 siblings. She married Kee Shun Chan on December 27, 1956 in Hong Kong, China. Kee and Phyllis soon expanded their family by welcoming their son Karl and daughter Sue.
Just prior to the Cultural Revolution in China, Phyllis and Kee made the difficult decision to immigrate to the United States to pursue a new beginning for their family. They arrived in San Francisco by cruise ship on Labor Day of September 7, 1964. The Chan family settled in Sacramento, California, to be close to Kee’s sister’s family, where Phyllis resided for nearly 60 years.
Phyllis was an accomplished teacher in Hong Kong, having earned her post secondary education certificate and taught elementary school students for a dozen years. After moving to the U.S., she focused on raising her two children and eventually her four grandchildren.
A funeral service to commemorate her life is scheduled for Saturday, August 3, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., at Harry A. Nauman & Son in Sacramento, California. Burial will follow at East Lawn Mortuary and Sierra Hills Memorial Park on Greenback Lane in Sacramento.
