

Robert Eugene O’Connor: October 1, 1925 – September 3, 2017 SACRAMENTO – Robert (Bob) O’Connor, 91, of Sacramento passed away on Sunday, Sep. 3, 2017. He is survived by his children William, Maureen Lancaster (Alan), Lawrence (Madeana), and Michael (Charlet), 10 Grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a sister Joan DuPass, and many nieces and nephews. He was born in 1925 in Mount Pleasant, Iowa to Paul and Mary (Walker) O’Connor. Bob attended school in Mt. Pleasant. Upon graduating from High school, he joined the Army to fight in WWII. He served at various locations over the next two years with his final assignment to the Panama Canal Zone, where he was discharged as a Sergeant. Upon his discharge, he went back to school. He received his BA from Iowa Wesleyan College where he graduated Cum Laude and a Master’s degree from the University of Iowa. He later earned a second Master’s degree from CSUS. Upon graduation, he obtained a teaching assignment in Oxford Junction, IA. His sister, Joan, introduced him to Elouise, a fellow nursing student, who he married on August 14, 1954. In 1957, he moved to Sacramento to take a teaching position in the Grant School District. Bob taught History and Business classes at Del Paso Jr. High, Norte Del Rio High school and Grant High School and was a counselor at Rio Tierra and Rio Linda Jr High Schools over the next 31 years. Bob loved history, travel, camping, photography, any kind of gadget, but most of all his family. He was a devout Catholic, a founding member of St Ignatius Church, who never missed a Mass even when travelling. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, National Education Association and Phi Delta Kappa fraternity Family and friends are invited to a viewing Monday, September 11th, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Lombard Funeral Home, 1550 Fulton Ave, Sacramento. A Recitation of The Rosary will be said at 10:30 am on Tuesday, September 12th, followed by the Mass of The Resurrection at 11:00am at Saint Ignatius Loyola Parish, 3235 Arden Way, Sacramento. A reception to follow by a reception at 2500 Marconi Ave, Sacramento. A private graveside service for the family will be held at Calvary Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to St Ignatius Church, Jesuit High School, 1200 Jacob Lane, Carmichael or the Law Enforcement Chaplaincy of Sacramento, 2500 Marconi Ave, Suite 210, Sacramento.
