A radiant, joyous being with a smile that lit up the souls of those he connected with came into this life in Sacramento, California on May 28, 1989. His name was Satandra Anand Singh II. He was known to many as Dre.
This wonderful being was called to share his radiance from a Divine place on February 21, 2023. He continues to bless all of us with his abundance of joy, bright light, smile, and laughter, especially: His great grandmother, Betty Kemp-Jones, his maternal grandmother, Saundra Kemp, paternal step-grandmother Waverly Pierze-Kemp, and his paternal grandparents, Harbans and Kuwar Singh. Especially! Especially! To the most loved person in his life: his mother, Asavari Kemp-Bafford. As well as his siblings, Sunahri, Simon, Sav, and Shahanna Singh, his brother-in-law, Steve O’Dell, his father and step mother, Satandra and Sharon Singh, his stepfather, Howard Bafford, his godmother, Anna-Marie Rodriguez, and his beloved nieces and nephews, Serafina, Soren, Savien, Selene, and one on the way. He will also be deeply missed by his aunt and uncles, Sandhya Singh-Johnson, Sunjeet Singh, and Louis Kemp, and by his first cousins who were like siblings to him as well: Brennan, Cicily, Helayna, Miles, Kareena, Madeline, and Sonahli. Additionally, he will be remembered by stepsiblings, Keytra, Joseph, Taya, and Carissa Bafford, as well as many other family members who knew and loved him
Dre was born and raised in Sacramento, California and during his childhood, Dre’s days were spent full of curiosity, playing, asking questions, and exploring. Dre laughed and smiled lots, then danced, and smiled even more. Then wrestled and smiled, then ate and ate and still, he smiled. He danced and then sang songs, perhaps even before he talked. It was during this time, it appeared one of Dre’s past lives must have been a dolphin as he and water became attracted and inseparable. It is also possible that his oldest sister insist that he start swimming at a very young age. The Dolphin-like joy and playfulness in the water personified the energy Dre had within himself, regardless of if he was swimming, surfing, boating, fishing, or just staring into the ocean with a beautiful and infectious sense of wonder. The water always brought a smile to Dre’s handsome face and that smile brought smiles to all those around him.
In his post-toddler pre-teen period of life, Dre found joy in video games (which continued throughout his life), skate boarding, learning about marine life, and he soon became fascinated with surfing. His ability to entertain family members and folks he met with his fun and exciting stories became very apparent at this time. Although he was often encouraged to purse this activity as an entertainer, it was not of his choosing. Of course, his love for food grew, as anyone who has ever heard him ask “you gonna finish that?” surely knows.
Dre also developed a connection with animals of all sorts, especially reptiles like snakes and lizards. Those he was with remember him catching snakes and bringing them home to share with everyone quite often. This was not to everyone’s liking. However as an adult he had a beautiful ball python named Ka whom he loved dearly and Ka was welcome and loved by Dre’s immediate family. He also found a close connection with birds, dogs, and cats.
In his teen years, Dre focused on advancing his education by graduating from high school and getting accredited in the culinary arts. Dre was always called upon to assist with making holiday family meals, which were times the family always treasured. Anyone who has experienced Dre’s famous pot roast should consider themselves blessed.
Dre grew up in Sacramento, California, then moved to Boise, Idaho, Vancouver, Washington, Sedona, Arizona, and Orlando, Florida. Wherever he resided, Dre lit up the space with smiles, laughter, and his uniquely innocent way of moving through life. Although we all know Dre is lighting up the ethers with his smile, entertaining persona, and charismatic personality, his care, generosity, love for animals and fellow human beings will remain. Dre is and will continue to be missed as his transition from this physical life has left a void in us all, an empty space that we all feel. This void will only truly be filled when our time comes to reunite with Dre as he greets us with his huge smile and warm energy in the ethers.
