Steve “Poppi” Maslowski, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away in his home on November 18, 2025. He was born to Joseph and Sonia Maslowski (née Muyzer) and raised in Fresno, California where he notoriously played in the band Valley Fever as warm-up to the most exceptional bands during the best era of rock n’ roll music. He first asked Gerilyn Rogers to go out with him at Bob’s Big Boy. After many valley adventures they were married and moved to Sacramento where they resided for 55 years. He graduated from UC Davis in 1973 with a degree in Zoology and continued to work there until retirement.
Steve spent his time following his teacher-daughter’s high school football games, tending to his vegetable garden in honor of his father “Tomato Joe”, and doting on his grandson Aksel. He is survived by his older brother Rod Maslowski, whom he always looked up to, his sisters Tina Najarian, Kristi Reeves, and Julie Garfoot to whom he was a dutiful and overprotective brother, and his youngest brother Bert Maslowski to whom he imparted much brotherly wisdom.
Steve is also survived by his wife, and best friend, Gerilyn, and their well-loved daughter Kasha. His company at coffee shop outings will be greatly missed. Kasha and her husband Stan Brown gave Steve the greatest joy in his life, his grandson Aksel Joseph Brown, who impressed Steve with his intelligence, humor, and spirit. From the moment he held him in his arms, Steve saw in Aksel the best version of himself.
Steve will be honored at a private family gathering. Tributes, memories, and photos can be forwarded to Gerilyn or Kasha Maslowski.
